CNNEE Butthurt Over DeSantis Bill Signing On Fox

May 7th, 2021 12:25 PM

CNN En Español went into full butthurt-mode following Ron DeSantis´ signing ceremony for Florida’s election security bill, SB 90. Directo USA anchor Juan Carlos Lopez delivered an on-air editorial in which he railed about DeSantis’ decision to sign the bill live on Fox News, slamming the network as “a channel that is not known for giving information, but rather disinformation.”

Watch as Lopez passes judgment over DeSantis, SB90, and Fox News, in a tone more consistent with that of a jilted lover than of a serious journalist, despite his own condition as someone who works at a network with a confirmed political agenda known for overt bias and character defamation:

JUAN CARLOS LÓPEZ: In democracies, public events are generally public. Public servants address the public. And, for example, enacting a law, which is a public act, is done before the media. But there are exceptions, as happened today in Florida. We were telling you yesterday that the Republican-majority legislature passed a law to solve a problem that did not exist, because that electoral process was transparent and efficient. Well, today, Governor Ron DeSantis enacted that law, which already faces legal action, but he did so by giving an exclusive to a media outlet, to (Fox News), to sign the law live, exclusively with them. Take a look.

JOURNALIST: What´s going to be different in the 2022 Florida elections? What are you signing?

RON DESANTIS: Right now, I have what we think is the strongest election integrity measures in the country. In fact, I´m signing it now. (Applause). There you go! The bill is signed.

LOPEZ: Florida is a state where transparency is required, free elections, they talk about what other countries should do. But now you see DeSantis signing a law exclusively for a channel that is not known for giving information, but rather disinformation.

Lopez begins his subjective monologue by saying that “in democracies, public events are generally public”. We might also add that in democracies, the freedom to choose is paramount, as is the right to inform the public of stated facts and not opinions, as is the case with this CNNEE report.

Furthermore, the anchor concludes that the law is excessive, because “the Republican-majority legislature passed a law to solve a problem that did not exist, because that electoral process was transparent and efficient.”

Absent from the anchor´s monologue are the specifics about how SB90 ensures a more transparent and efficient voting process, as DeSantis explained but CNNEE kept from their viewers: "I have what we think is the strongest election integrity measures in the country. We're making sure we're enforcing voter ID… We're also banning ballot harvesting. We're not gonna let political operatives go and get satchels of votes to dump them in some drop box."

Then again, when does López let facts get in the way of a good rant?
