Latino Nets Play Down Newsom´s Disregard for His Own Rules

November 20th, 2020 12:35 PM

The nation´s Spanish-speaking networks have taken their Covid-19 panic-porn to new heights, featuring one liberal politician after the other, set on cancelling Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations altogether. Just tune in to any of the news editions at Telemundo and Univision, and voilá – from Joe Biden, to flamboyant governors like Andrew Cuomo, Gretchen Whitmer, and Gavin Newsom, you will see them all parroting the same terror-inducing talking points over and over.

Speaking of California governor Gavin Newsom: while much ado has been made at Latino media about his new quasi-lockdown coronavirus restrictions, practically NOTHING was reported regarding his “slipup” of attending a party in the middle of this new “crisis”, with no regard to mask or social distancing guidelines he would impose upon his fellow citizens.

In fact, only Univision News dared mention the blunder, a paltry 16 seconds hidden within a two-and-a-half-minute report on the new restrictions. Anchor Jorge Ramos opened the November 17th report. The only other exposure of the governor´s disregard for his constituents at the channel, aired over their morning talk show Despierta America, the very next morning. However, neither reports offered the incriminating image of Newsom at the chummy party. Did they think it was way too much for their audiences to handle, or are they trying to protect Newsom?

Take a look at this clip from Noticiero Univision featuring a smiling Newsom with an on-screen graphic that read: “Wear a mask. Slow the spread”:

JAIME GARCIA: The governor apologized for attending a birthday celebration with his wife at a restaurant that was attended by other guests, a contradiction to his calls for people to protect themselves from the coronavirus.

NEWSOM: I've apologized to you to face this new wave of contagion.

While the threat to our Constitutional freedoms (such as our right to free assembly and of free exercise of religion) continues to escalate, incited and abetted by the media and the likes of Univision and Telemundo, it becomes more and more important to take action.
