Telemundo Report About Facebook Censorship Is Anything But 'News'

A Telemundo breaking news report about Facebook’s April deletion of “nearly 2,000 accounts that attack immigrants, promote racism and spread false information,” not only pointed an accusatory finger at Trump followers but dated the event, originally announced on May 5th, as taking place “today”.

Watch as anchor Jose Diaz-Balart begins the May 12, 2020 report by stating that “dozens (of the deleted accounts) were administered by supporters of President Trump”:

JOSE DIAZ-BALART: Facebook today made a major decision: to delete nearly 2,000 accounts that attack immigrants, promote racism and spread false information. Dozens were administered by supporters of President Trump.

[…]

FRANCISCO CUEVAS: Among the pages deleted here in the United States, are some related to far-right groups that are committed to the expulsion of immigrants and also of white supremacist groups, whose messages will no longer be heard starting today, at least on Facebook. In Los Angeles, California, Francisco Cuevas.

To bolster their report, Telemundo correspondent Francisco Cuevas interviewed activist Juan José Gutiérrez, from the Full Rights for Immigrants Coalition - known for his vitriol for anything related to the Trump administration- who contributed a comment better suited to define his  group's mission: “They are motivated to push these people to go against other groups.”

While Telemundo labeled the Facebook decision as one made to prevent “abuse by removing pages and groups from the network such as VDARE, whose mission was to attack migrants with messages like these, spreading false information and promoting misinformation theories,” a search by MRC Latino revealed what Telemundo omitted: That Facebook “found the QAnon and VDARE fake accounts as it was investigating behavior intended to influence the November election”, and that they deleted the pages because of their “intent of disrupting politics elections and society.”

Any person that watched this report cannot help but wonder what happens when the hatred or “intent of disrupting politics, elections and society”, comes from the other side of the political spectrum: the very spiteful and violent far-left. NADA. ZILCH. ZERO.

JOSE DIAZ-BALART: Facebook today made a major decision: to delete nearly 2,000 accounts that attack immigrants, promote racism and spread false information. Dozens were administered by supporters of President Trump. Francisco Cuevas has the details.

FRANCISCO CUEVAS: For Cecilia Iñiguez, Facebook had always been a way to stay in touch with her family. But recently, the experience has not been entirely pleasant.

CECILIA IÑIGUEZ: There are many people who are bullying, who are doing racism. And I think they're fake profiles that are wanting to have more influence over me.

CUEVAS: The social media giant and its president and founder, Mark Zuckerberg, announced that they are stepping up efforts to prevent abuse by removing pages and groups from the network such as  VDARE,  whose mission was to attack migrants with messages like these, spreading false information and promoting misinformation theories.

JUAN JOSE GUTIERREZ, ACTIVIST: They are motivated to push these people to go against other groups.

CUEVAS: In total, during April, Facebook removed from its network 732 accounts, 793 pages and 200 groups and 162 other Instagram accounts, accounts that had been created in six countries including  the United States. Alejandro Lopez got tired of the racist content and canceled his account.

ALEJANDRO LOPEZ: On Facebook, they do many things to manipulate people, that are not true, and I got tired of that and decided to get away from it.

CUEVAS: Manuel Toledano is a journalist and social media expert that applauds Facebook's effort, but believes this should just be the beginning.

MANUEL TOLEDANO, MEGALOPOLIS LATITUD ACTIVIST: I find it a real aberration because the only thing we find here in such fake pages is confusion.

CUEVAS: Among the pages deleted here in the United States, are some related to far-right groups that are committed to the expulsion of immigrants and also of white supremacist groups, whose messages will no longer be heard starting today, at least on Facebook. In Los Angeles, California, Francisco Cuevas.
