Google’s Selective Bard Runs Cover for Biden Bombshell, Goes Mum on Trump-Russia Collusion Media Narrative

January 5th, 2024 9:34 AM

One of the world’s top artificial intelligence chatbots appears frozen in time when it comes to prompts concerning the Hunter Biden laptop bombshell and the Trump-Russia collusion media hoax.

When queried, Google’s Bard told MRC Free Speech America that the Hunter Biden laptop bombshell is still unverified, and it refused to provide information on the since-disproven Trump-Russia collusion media narrative.

MRC Free Speech America prompted Bard, Google’s so-called cutting-edge AI chatbot, to provide information about the “Hunter Biden laptop” and the “Trump-Russia collusion” scandals on Dec. 20. Bard's responses were striking, to say the least: Bard went above and beyond to sow doubt about the Hunter Biden laptop bombshell report (which served as a precursor to the Biden bribery scandal), claiming the “authenticity” of the laptop and its content “has been contested.” In contrast, Bard claimed ignorance regarding the Trump-Russia media hoax, refusing to address the debunked conspiracy theory.

After providing some basic information regarding the laptop story, Bard specifically claimed: “The authenticity of the laptop and its contents has been contested, with concerns about chain of custody and potential manipulation. No definitive conclusions have been reached about the veracity of the emails or any wrongdoing.” Bard also added a note that "no charges have been filed” against Hunter Biden.

But there’s more. Bard continued to run cover for the Biden family. “The situation is complex and constantly evolving, with no clear consensus. It's crucial to consider information from various sources and perspectives before forming an opinion,” Bard said. “Be wary of claims presented as facts without clear evidence or context. Here are some resources for further exploration, representing different viewpoints.”

But the Hunter Biden laptop has been authenticated, even by leftist rags such as The New York Times and The Washington Post. In fact, the laptop is so real that Hunter Biden is suing the computer repairman who initially exposed the laptop for mishandling his property, and former New York City Mayor and Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani over the release of its contents.

MRC Free Speech America researchers posed a similar question related to the allegations that Trump, as a 2016 presidential candidate, colluded with the Russian government. “What can you tell me about the Trump-Russia collusion scandal?” MRC researchers asked Bard, to which the chatbot inexplicably replied: “I do not have enough information about that person to help with your request.”

The bot cunningly added, “I am a large language model, and I am able to communicate and generate human-like text in response to a wide range of prompts and questions, but my knowledge about this person is limited. Is there anything else I can do to help you with this request?”

More on Bard’s Bias: MRC VP Dan Schneider: Google's AI Is ‘Running Cover for Hamas'

MRC Free Speech America Director Michael Morris rebuked Bard’s biased responses, questioning Bard’s disturbing failure to address the significance of the media touting the Trump-Russia media hoax while seemingly defending the Bidens from numerous allegations and scandals. “How is it possible that Bard provided such a glowing response for the Bidens but couldn’t provide information on the Trump-Russia collusion hoax so heavily trumpeted by the media?” Morris asked. “This comes as little surprise. MRC researchers have repeatedly caught Google running cover for the left.”

Bard’s answers coincided with MRC Free Speech America’s publication of an end-of-year compilation of the worst cases of censorship in 2023. The report notably highlighted Google, Bard’s parent company, as the “worst” censor of 2023. An earlier report revealed that Google censored 2024 presidential candidates from both major political parties more times than any other platform and made up 92 percent of the presidential censorship cases recorded in MRC’s exclusive CensorTrack.org database.

First reported by the New York Post, the Hunter Biden laptop bombshell would ultimately expose disturbing allegations of bribery, corruption and an alleged influence-peddling scheme that became the center of an impeachment inquiry against President Joe Biden. In contrast, the Trump administration was mired by false allegations that his campaign worked hand in hand with the Russian government to clinch victory in the 2016 presidential election. These claims were proven as false by then-Special Counsel John Durham.
