GOP Lawmakers React to Free Speech Ruling Against Biden Administration

Tired of winning? Republican leaders are rejoicing over the latest free speech victory coming from the Missouri v. Biden lawsuit filed by the Louisiana and Missouri attorneys general.

Prominent Republican lawmakers are celebrating the pro-free speech ruling in a recent preliminary injunction by U.S. District Judge Terry A. Doughty who on Monday denied the federal government's request for a stay of the ruling. The Biden administration is effectively banned from colluding with Big Tech platforms to censor constitutionally protected free speech unless an appeals court rules otherwise. Leaders from both chambers of Congress made their voices heard in fired-up responses after Doughty denied Biden’s request to keep censoring free speech until an appeals judge reviewed the case.

Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), a staunch defender of the First Amendment, blasted the Biden administration’s decision to request a stay on Monday. “The DOJ’s challenge to the injunction barring the Biden administration from communicating with Big Tech has been denied by a federal district court,” she said. “Sorry, @POTUS. You don’t get to censor speech just because you disagree with it.”

Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) echoed Blackburn’s remarks, stating on Tuesday, “The recent federal court injunction in Missouri v. Biden to stop the federal government from colluding with big tech to censor protected speech is EXACTLY what my new legislation will accomplish.” In a second tweet, Paul blasted the federal government, saying, “As I've said before, the government is the biggest disseminator of misinformation there is.”

Andrew Bailey and Jeff Landry, the Attorneys General of Missouri and Louisiana filed the lawsuit against the federal government over its anti-free speech collusion with Big Tech to censor online content that went against their desired narrative. Both Bailey and Landry argued that directing Big Tech companies to censor free speech violated the Constitution. Judge Doughty agreed.

Members of the House of Representatives wasted no time chiming in and celebrating Judge Doughty’s denial of Biden’s stay of the injunction. Rep. Mike Johnson (R-LA) called the order great news. He said, “I interviewed my good friend, La Atty Gen Jeff Landry, on my podcast Thursday about the huge implications of this case. Great news today: The injunction stands!”

Rep. Jodey Arrington (R-TX) also celebrated Judge Doughty’s protection of the First Amendment. “Free speech is not an option or privilege granted by our government - it’s a right endowed by God. Grateful for Judge Doughty’s defense of the First Amendment,” he said.
