Watch Out, Censors! Rep. Jordan Looking to Uncover More on Gov’t Agency Collusion

The House Judiciary subpoenaed three federal agency chiefs as it continues investigating Big Tech-government censorship collusion.

House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) sent subpoenas April 28 to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) director Dr. Rochelle Walensky and Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) head Jen Easterly. Global Engagement Center (GEC) head James Rubin also received a subpoena. Interagency GEC operates under State Department oversight.

“Freedom of speech is one of the most important rights we have in this country,” Jordan told the Washington Examiner. “The collusion between our federal government and Big Tech undermines First Amendment principles and should be investigated.” The Examiner revealed in multiple reports how GEC funded a group blacklisting conservatives, the Global Disinformation Index.

The censorship activities of the CDC, GEC and CISA were exposed by Judicial Watch, America First Legal, a lawsuit from the Missouri and Louisiana attorneys general, The Twitter Files and The Facebook Files.

Jordan is reportedly requesting the three federal agencies produce records that show the "persons" they "cooperated with, consulted with, or relied on, formally or informally, in developing, applying, executing, implementing, or communicating" government policies that are connected to "the moderation, deletion, suppression, restriction, or reduced circulation of content" online.

The House Judiciary Committee’s Weaponization of the Federal Government subcommittee is looking to press Biden’s federal government on its censorship activities. Jordan requested communications between the CDC and private companies. The subpoena also requested internal CDC communications along with communications between the CDC and third parties discussing online content moderation. Rubin and Easterly were given similar requests.

Jordan previously called on Big Tech executives to provide information on tech-government censorship collusion in December 2022.
