Samantha Bee Tears Up Imagining Clinton White House Correspondent’s Dinner

Samantha Bee just can’t get over Hillary Clinton’s presidential defeat.

In her widely publicized TBS special “Not the White House Correspondent’s Dinner,” the Full Frontal host spent six minutes imagining the Clinton administration WHCD that could have been. And the very thought brought her to tears.

In a segment titled “Woman in the High Castle,” Hollywood liberal George Takei gave Bee a nondescript brown parcel under cover of darkness. Opening it back at her apartment, Bee discovered a film reel, and upon playing it, she gazed in ecstasy as a newly elected Hillary Clinton appeared on the screen. Clips revealed the former Secretary of State at her inauguration, then giving speeches and talking with German President Angela Merkel.

Bee began to tear up as she watched herself speaking at the podium of a WHCD that could have been – if only her idol had prevailed. And of course, as Daily Beast’s Matt Wilstein noted, she was wearing a white pantsuit, reminiscent of a certain Democratic candidate.

“For a week after President Clinton won, we all heard this loud buzzing noise,” Bee watched herself declare from the stage. “I think it was the sound of the whizzing bullet we just dodged.”

“We’re just three menstrual cycles into this presidency,” she continued, “but Washington feels different. Over half the president’s cabinet are women.”

“During President Clinton’s first 100 days in office, she’s focused on — well, you know, she’s gotten a lot done,” Bee went on. “Honestly, I don’t really know. It’s overly complicated and dull and I’m bored s--tless. I almost feel like I’d rather have an idiot like Trump in charge just for the excitement.”

As her speech continued, Bee indicated that “President” Clinton had been targeted unjustly by federal agencies and Republicans. “Hillary is under so many investigations I’m starting to think that FBI really does stand for Female Body Inspector,” she cracked.

Despite her frequent use of charged and crude humor, Bee got a standing ovation from the media, while several journalists continued to pine for a Clinton presidency along with her.

Huffington Post comedy editor Andy McDonald wanted in on the world Bee had painted, further assuming that “a lot of the attendees at the star-studded event were thinking the same thing.”

Bustle pop culture writer Sage Young called the segment “so bittersweet,” noting that Bee tapped “into the dashed hopes and desperate daydreams of many a voter” with the sketch.

According to Vulture writer Jesse David Fox, TV’s only female late night host was “arguably the best she’s been anywhere since starting Full Frontal.” And she’s been plenty of places. Over the past year, Bee has vilely insulted the President, calling him despicable names, condemned the GOP, comparing it to hate group Westboro Baptist Church and repeated fawned over Hillary Clinton declaring, “It should have been you!”

Despite this, on Sunday’s episode of CNN’s State of the Union, Bee denied the existence of a “smug liberal problem.”
