Progressive Church Tries to Claim God is Female, Shows 'Hallmarks of Mothering'

On Sunday, a queer-affirming church (an oxymoron) in Austin, Texas changed the pronouns referencing God as male in two worship songs and the Lord’s Prayer.

The progressive Austin New Church chose to alter the pronouns that referred to God as male in the songs “Wonderful Maker” and “Good, Good Father” (both written by Chris Tomlin) and swapped them out for feminine pronouns.

Instead of saying, “With a strength like no other, and the heart of a father,” and “You’re a good, good Father,” the worship team swapped out the "male" words and replaced them with the word “mother.”

Jason Morris, the lead pastor of this so-called “church,” also said that what Scripture reveals about God’s love for His people in Scripture is foolproof evidence that God is indeed female (despite the fact that every time a pronoun is used to describe God, it’s a male one).

“We should always have understood that God is not contained in the binaries of our linguistic system,” Morris said. “We have always known that God is relentless in pursuit, we have always known that God is unconditional in love, these are the hallmarks of mothering.”

Morris continued by changing the opening line of the Lord’s Prayer to read, “Our Mother, who art in heaven…”

Here’s a video that focuses on the changes in lyrics throughout the songs and that includes the false rendition of the Lord’s prayer.

“We changed a few words,” one worship pastor said. “We feel like it brings something new to light and makes these songs a bit more powerful.”

The only new thing these false Christians brought to their congregation was an outright lie that has no Scriptural backing at all.

Here are just a few verses that show that God is indeed a male and a father (italics added):

1 Corinthians 8:6 - “Yet for us there is one God, the Father, from whom are all things and for whom we exist, and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things and through whom we exist.”

Ephesians 1:3 - “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places…”

Psalm 68:5 - “Father of the fatherless and protector of widows is God in his holy habitation.”

And on, and on, and on. See the pattern?

Within these verses and plenty of others like it in the Bible, God shows that He is a relentlessly loving father and that displaying unconditional love isn't something that's limited only to mothers (despite what Morris would have you believe).

By changing the words of the song and the Lord’s prayer, the pastor and worship team are deceiving people in need of understanding who God really is rather than enlightening them with truth.

Anyone who attends Austin New Church should be looking for a new place to worship immediately.
