Muslim NFL Players Blast Trump for ‘Ignorant’ Stance on Muslims

Lions safety Isa Abdul-Quddus and running back Ameer Abdullah are both Muslim. They’re also both upset at Donald Trump’s calling for a ban on Muslim immigration, and for his call for a Muslim registration plan.

According to Michigan Live, Abdul-Quddus said:

"Trump says a lot of things for shock value to get people to hear him and listen to him and stuff -- just to put his face in the public," Abdul-Quddus said. "So I don't really feel much disrespect when he said that, 'cause he already said he wanted to label us -- he wanted everybody to have an ID and everything.

"I just kind of chalk it up as a guy that's pretty ignorant."

Both players said they dismissed what Trump said, because they feel he says many outlandish things to draw attention during his presidential campaign. What they are really worried about is the anti-Muslim sentiment Trump is spreading to his support base.

"That's the scary part," Abdul-Quddus said. "I just pray that Americans have a better mindset than to think all Muslims are evil. Because, you know, there's a lot of Muslims doing great things out there, and a lot of Muslims doing great things for America. It's tough to see that, because we're all getting alienated when just a small percentage of people are doing bad (things)."

As for Abdullah:

"He'll say some things, and the large following that he has -- he has a very large following -- is kind of disappointing, from my perspective," Abdullah said. "But I just encourage everyone to educate yourself before you take a stance on something you may not know about."

Abdullah said he hopes people try to understand Muslims and Islam before relying on the stereotypes from Trump.

"This is a tough thing to deal with -- just being alienated," Abdul-Quddus added. "There's a lot of people that is struggling with this. I can say it's easier for me, because I'm of African-American descent. But someone who is of Middle Eastern descent, being Muslim, now people are a little more nervous (around them) because they feel like those guys are doing the dirt -- when in reality, it's just a group of evil people. It's tough."

Funny how it’s always non-Muslim Americans who need to “educate” ourselves, and get a better understanding of things. Wouldn’t both Muslim and non-Muslim American benefit tremendously if, instead of Christians educating themselves about Islam, Abdullah, Abdul-Quddus, and all the other non-violent Muslims were to band together and “educate” the terrorists about why they shouldn’t murder everyone?

Seems like that would be an education that might solve the actual problem.

But Abdul-Quddus and Abdullah need not fear greatly about any reprisals from the Trumpkins. According to the FBI Jews, not Muslims are the group most likely to be the victims of religiously targeted hate crimes.

Yeah, Abdullah and Abdul-Quddus might want to “educate” themselves about that.
