Democrat Abdul El-Sayed is condemning President Donald Trump’s authority to ban CNN, MS Now and Politico from the White House – but, a statement by the Socialist-aligned Michigan Democrat Senate candidate called for another president to “purge the police and media.”
Legacy media ignored the scandalous demand made by El-Sayed, when it was first exposed by commentator Laura Loomer in April, and again when it was reported by the Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI) last month.
On Wednesday, as the Trump v. Media battle raged on, Loomer’s expose’ resurfaced in an article by The Washington Free Beacon with the headline:
“Abdul El-Sayed Called on Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood To 'Purge the Media and Police' Shortly Before Islamic Government Arrested Reporters for 'Insulting Islam'”
In it, The Beacon reports what biased, liberal media had previously refused to cover:
“Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed demanded in 2012 that the repressive Muslim Brotherhood ‘purge’ media and police in Egypt after the radical Islamic group seized control of the country. A brutal religious crackdown on the press was soon to follow.”
At issue is a November 25, 2012 article by Arabic-language Egyptian news outlet Al-Ahram Gate with a headline translated by The Beacon to read:
“Statement by Morsi Supporters in America Backs His Decisions and Calls on Him to 'Purge the Media and Police’”
El-Sayed was one of a number of Americans of Egyptian origin who signed the statement, which contained the following passage:
“We of the leaders of the Egyptian community support the revolutionary decisions taken by the president and ask him to purge the media and the police as soon as possible.”
“The press ‘purge’ that El-Sayed and his allies demanded soon followed in the form of a ruthless crackdown on Egyptian journalists,” The Beacon recalls:
“In the succeeding months, at least six news reporters were hauled into court on charges of ‘insulting Islam’ and ‘insulting the president.’ Critical coverage of Morsi was yanked from Egyptian websites, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists—a considerably more credible organization at that time.”
Prompted by El-Sayed winning his party’s nomination for the Senate, Egyptian journalists criticized him for being supported by the Muslim Brotherhood (MB), a U.S.-designated terrorist organization, MEMRI reported on August 12, 2026:
“Journalists, commentators, and media figures claimed that he maintains positions and rhetoric associated with the MB, that he has ties to individuals linked to it in the U.S., and that he was a supporter of Egyptian president Mohamed Morsi, an MB figure elected president of Egypt in June 2012 following the overthrow of president Hosni Mubarak.”
….
“Against the backdrop of the public protests in Egypt following the publication of Morsi’s constitutional declaration, a statement was published, signed by 46 Americans of Egyptian origin, including Adbul El-Sayed, in which they expressed support for Morsi and his constitutional declaration and called on him to ‘purge the police and the media’ of Murbarak supporters.”
In light of his call for a media “purge” by Pres. Morsi, it’s striking that El-Sayed is now accusing President Trump of “interfering with the press” and hating democracy, analysis published Thursday in The Federalist notes:
“That’s an interesting criticism from a guy who reportedly once urged the Muslim Brotherhood to ‘purge’ news outlets and law enforcement in Egypt. The Trump administration has designated the Muslim Brotherhood a terrorist organization.”
Pres. Trump first announced his ban of CNN, Politico and MS Now in a social media post on September 18, attributing his move to “the constant ‘reporting’ of FAKE NEWS,” “FICTION and LIES”:
“I am proud to announce that, effective immediately, I am banning Fake News CNN, MSNOW (who recently changed their name from MSNBC due to lack of viewership and credibility!), and Politico (The recipients of an illegal and ridiculous $8 Million Dollar subscription, an All Time Record, directly from the United States Government, under Crooked Joe Biden, in order to keep them ‘alive.’ Seems like corruption to me!), from the White House as a result of their constant ‘reporting’ FAKE NEWS! Media Outlets shouldn’t be able to constantly write or report FICTION and LIES when they’re covering the President of the United States, the Trump Administration, or the United States of America. Other Fake News Media Outlets to follow. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DONALD J. TRUMP”
The three media outlets have since sued the president, asking a court to order the Trump Administration to restore their White House access.
