“With Abdul El-Sayed winning the Democratic nomination for Michigan’s open U.S. Senate seat, Michigan families deserve to know the socialist energy record behind the candidate,” Power The Future warned Wednesday.
“Abdul El-Sayed may have won the Democratic nomination, but Michigan families would lose under the insane Green New Deal he has proudly championed,” the energy-focused nonprofit cautioned in a press release titled “El-Sayed's Extreme Energy Agenda Means More Pain For Michigan Families.”
“Our research found the Green New Deal would cost a typical Michigan household nearly $75,000 in the first year alone, but El-Sayed doesn’t seem to care,” the group’s Executive Director Daniel Turner said:
“If you want to see what El-Sayed’s agenda would do to America, look no further than the disaster in Cuba.”
After the first year, policies mandated by Democrats’ Green New Deal would cost the average Michigan household $47,000 annually in each of the next five years, according to an 11-state study the group conducted in association with the Competitive Enterprise Institute in 2020, before the legislation failed to pass Congress.
Average first-year cost per household ranged from a low of $74,287 in Colorado to a high of $84,584 in Alaska, among the 11 states analyzed in the study, which included Florida, Iowa, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.
According to his Senate campaign website, as a U.S. senator, El-Sayed would work to:
Shut down the Line 5 crude oil and natural gas pipeline running from Wisconsin through Michigan into Canada, which transports up to 540,000 barrels per day.
Make “massive investment in solar, wind, and battery storage, a modernized smart grid, and the energy efficiency upgrades.”
Make so-called environmental justice “an explicit mandate of every federal agency with authority over our air and water.”
Declare storms, flooding, and severe weather proof of an ongoing “climate crisis” that require federal regulation and spending solutions.
El-Sayed’s campaign website goes on to vilify the oil and gas industry by accusing it of poisoning the air, financing foreign entanglements and enriching “the same corporations that have spent decades lying to us about what they knew.”
The website does not explain what the companies producing traditional energy supposedly “knew” and were “lying” about to the American public.
