To avoid embarrassment, beware of your surroundings when taking selfies.

The people who run the tumblog Seattlish snapped a selfie with sex columnist and gay activist Dan Savage at a Seattle politician’s campaign event and posted the photo to Twitter on Aug. 4. The problem? A campaign poster hanging directly behind the group said, “Tax the Rich.” Ironic, considering Celebrity Net Worth estimates Savage’s net worth is $3 million.

The event was for Seattle City Councilmember Kshama Sawant, who is definitively anti-1 percent. She is a socialist, former Occupy Wall Street activist and founder of the organization Socialist Alternative. Sawant has complained that Seattle has become a “playground for the wealthy” and said top Democrats and Republicans would “go to any lengths to defend the superwealthy and protect the capitalist system” in The Nation on March 23.

Savage is best known as a gay activist and sleazy sex columnist who has attacked Christians and opponents of homosexuality using highly offensive rhetoric. That included marking Pope Benedict’s retirement with a column about “That Motherfucking Power-Hungry, Self-Aggrandized Bigot In the Stupid Fucking Hat Announces His Retirement.”

ABC revealed in May 2015 that it planned to air an anti-Catholic sitcom supposedly based on Savage’s early life called The Real O’Neals.
