Not surprisingly, David Letterman’s appearance on The View Friday quickly devolved into Trump bashing. Letterman reminisced about Trump’s many appearances on his show as a private citizen and talked about how “he seemed like a guy” back then, as opposed to now, where he has become a “goon.”
Ordinarily, the media have quite an appetite for covering political family feuds; especially CNN. Last year, the network gave air time to relatives of Republican Congressman Paul Gosar, White House adviser Stephen Miller, and outgoing Republican Congressman Bob Goodlatte to either trash their relatives and/or endorse their Democratic opponents. However, they did not share the same enthusiasm for giving a platform to Democratic Presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg’s brother-in-law, who took issue with some of the information in a Washington Post article profiling Chasten Buttigieg, the candidate’s husband.
As ABC's World News Tonight aired a story sympathetic to the pro-abortion movement, NBC Nightly News actually devoted 20 seconds to an inspiring story out of San Diego. Fill-in anchor Savannah Guthrie reported on the progress of “what doctors are calling the world’s tiniest surviving baby,” so while NBC deserves credit for running this story, they failed to acknowledge its impact on the abortion debate.
During his opening monologue Tuesday night, CNN Tonight host Don Lemon echoed the talking points of ABC News, which accused the President of “siding with a murderous dictator” by agreeing with North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un’s description of Former Vice President Joe Biden as a “low I.Q. individual.” He also tried to shame voters thinking of voting for President Trump because of the strong economy despite his behavior.
Just weeks after expressing his regret that he did not “help” Hillary Clinton win by having her on his show ahead of the 2016 Presidential Election, radio host Howard Stern has once again tried to get into the media’s good graces by trashing President Trump. During an interview with CNN’s Anderson Cooper Monday night, Stern did not hesitate to criticize the President, who appeared on his radio show multiple times as a private citizen. In the course of his sit-down with Cooper, Stern suggested that President Trump could benefit from psychotherapy and recycled the left-wing talking points on immigration and abortion.
Not surprisingly, the panel on Deadline: White House Thursday delighted in reporting on former Secretary of State Rex Tillerson’s harsh words for President Trump as reported by The Washington Post. Of course, President Trump did not hesitate to punch back at Tillerson; calling him “dumb as a rock.” According to host Nicolle Wallace, “he (Trump) called someone else ‘dumb as a rock,’ he called Nancy Pelosi crazy, I think he worries that maybe someone thinks he’s dumb as a rock and crazy.”
On Friday’s The Five, the panel weighed in how the media have reacted to the feud between President Trump and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Along with a mash-up of media figures exulting Pelosi accompanied by the chyron “Familiar Phrase: Media Parrots Same Line to Describe Trump-Pelosi Feud,” co-host Greg Gutfeld described the media and the Democrats as “incestuous” and “interchangeable.”
Breaking news…Trevor Noah, host of Comedy Central’s The Daily Show, has apparently run out of original material; as he has compared President Trump to a dictator yet again. The only thing that has gotten more tiring is the Comedy Central host’s repeated attacks on the Catholic Church and Christianity as a whole.
Full Frontal host Samantha Bee devoted her entire opening monologue Wednesday night to trashing Fox News. Throughout the course of her monologue, Bee described the network as “BDSM for the soul” and compared it to “North Korea’s state television.”
On Cuomo Prime Time Tuesday, CNN’s Chris Cuomo weighed in on the impeachment debate; pointing out the pluses and minuses of going down the impeachment road. According to Cuomo, impeachment “could be the best way to get you the information you deserve so that you can decide if there were an actual abuse of power here by the President.” In other words, Congress must impeach President Trump so that way they can figure out whether or not he deserves impeachment.
On Friday’s edition of Real Time, host Bill Maher devoted part of his closing monologue to trashing Attorney General Bill Barr. While the attack on Barr was probably expected, few could have predicted that the HBO host would use Barr as a pretense to tear into his religion, which Maher referred to as the “cult” of Catholicism.
Just two and a half years after fantasizing about a retroactive abortion for then-Vice Presidential nominee Mike Pence, author Fran Lebowitz offered up more outrageous commentary on Friday’s edition of Real Time. This time, Lebowitz shared her desire that the Saudis murder President Trump.
Opening Wednesday's CNN Tonight, the horribly biased Don Lemon pondered: “Why this President loves to surround himself with strong men, with dictators?” Naturally, Lemon proceeded to criticize Trump for meeting with dictators, apparently forgetting that President Obama attended a baseball game with Cuban dictator Raul Castro while administration officials had numerous meetings with Iranians. Lemon went further by saying that President Trump wants to “follow their lead” by acting like a king.
The Sunday edition of HBO’s Last Week Tonight With John Oliver focused heavily on climate change, so it featured an appearance from Bill Nye the Science Guy, who had some harsh words for conservatives skeptical of the Green New Deal throughout the episode, concluding with a profanity-laced rant aimed at critics of the Green New Deal.
A weekly theme of CNN’s Reliable Sources is that “democracy is dying in darkness” under Trump. So naturally, host Brian Stelter turned to Washington Post columnist and CNN analyst Catherine Rampell to discuss the so-called “Constitutional crisis.” Host Brian Stelter opened the segment by declaring that “democracy in the United States is being tested” and Stelter asked Rampell to sum up the past week in a headline. She chose “the frog has been boiled." Trump is killing the American people....slowly. And they’re as dumb as a frog.
On Real Time Friday, host Bill Maher closed his satirical segment “New Rules” by urging First Lady Melania Trump to dump the President, arguing that her doing so would enable President Trump to “implode on his own.” Maher also encouraged Rupert Murdoch’s wife, Jerry Hall, to do the same before describing Fox News as an “axis of evil” and comparing the Trump base to “an army of brain-dead zombies.”
Appearing on CNN’s New Day Thursday, CNN Presidential historian Douglas Brinkley echoed Jerry Nadler’s rhetoric, declaring that “we’re hovering on a Constitutional crisis” as a result of the standoff between House Democrats and Attorney General Bill Barr. Brinkley went so far as to argue that the election of President Trump was a “Constitutional crisis” in and of itself while both Berman and Brinkley could not resist the urge to invoke Watergate comparisons.
CNN hosts and guests reacted with glee when The New York Times published tidbits about President Trump’s tax returns from 1985 to 1994. CNN Tonight host Don Lemon branded the President “our con man in chief” while The Art of the Deal co-author Tony Schwartz slammed him as a “sociopath.”
MSNBC host and Chief Legal Correspondent Ari Melber appeared on The Late Show Tuesday night. Not surprisingly, the Mueller probe came up. After Melber and host Stephen Colbert analyzed and discussed the prospects for impeachment, Colbert shockingly pushed back on Melber’s claim of objectivity: “come on…you guys bang a drum over there sometimes.”
As NewsBusters has previously reported, the networks ignored the outrageous story about Pennsylvania State Rep. Brian Sims harassing an elderly pro-life protester outside of a Philadelphia Planned Parenthood clinic and threatening to dox her. Cable news was not much better. Only Fox News bothered to give the story airtime.
