Less than 24 hours before President Barack Obama came out to endorse Hillary Clinton for president, MSNBC host Chris Matthews ended Wednesday night’s Hardball by complaining that the American people (and presumably the media too) didn’t spend enough time on Tuesday “salut[ing]” Clinton for what she’s “accomplished in this historic struggle” for women’s rights.

The New York Times on Thursday offered a front-page story hailing Hillary Clinton’s coming nomination as “the thunderbolt of history.” Despite the fact that this was an article on how not all Americans are happy with her rise, the story by Patrick Healy and Sheryl Gay Stolberg focused on Democratic voices, mostly avoiding Republicans who dislike Clinton’s liberal politics. 

The cable networks ran a full-court press in covering President Obama’s endorsement on Thursday afternoon of Hillary Clinton with MSNBC giving Brian Williams the keys to the network for a few hours and, in the first 10 minutes, he seemed to blame talk radio for not reminding voters of Donald Trump’s birtherim enough that was, in his words, an “original sin.”

All three network morning shows on Thursday reveled in the news that during an upcoming White House meeting, President Obama would “nudge” Bernie Sanders out of Hillary Clinton’s way. NBC’s Today set the tone, as co-host Savannah Guthrie led the broadcast by proclaiming: “The presidential push. Bernie Sanders heads to the White House today, where President Obama is expected to gently nudge him…

Journalists on NBC and CBS appeared excited over a possible endorsement of Hillary Clinton from “progressive champion” Elizabeth Warren. Both on Thursday made sure to highlight angry attacks by Warren on Donald Trump. Today reporter Kristen Welker cheered, “As the President starts that healing process, Clinton is poised for a big endorsement.”

For the first time since Hillary Clinton began her official presidential campaign in April 2015, The Washington Post was granted an interview with her and, needless to say, Clinton campaign correspondent Anne Gearan spent the first portion inquiring whether or not Clinton cried on Tuesday night and what she’ll tell granddaughter Charlotte years from now. 

The Good Wife star, far-left actor, and Hillary Clinton supporter Denis O’Hare joined MSNBC’s Hardball host Chris Matthews Wednesday night to join the pundit in extolling Clinton as “an amazing success story” who had “no problems” while secretary of state to become “one of the most qualified candidates we’ve ever had.”

On Wednesday evening, both Fox News and CNN held interviews with presumptive Democrat nominee Hillary Clinton and they really held her feet to the fire. Each of the “big three” networks conducted interviews with Hillary Clinton that aired on their Wednesday evening newscasts, but they dramatically fell short in providing any sort of challenge in contrast to hardball questions from CNN’s Anderson Cooper and the Fox News Channel’s Bret Baier that they fired off in their interviews. 

The TV networks are heavily promoting the word “historic” in Hillary Clinton’s presumptive-nominee status – and “historic” is correct. This surely is a first.  “Historic” can be a factual adjective, but in the hands of the networks, it often carries a highly positive ring, often attached to liberal victories.
