HuffPost Headline on AP Story Hypes Major GOP Donors as 'Billionaire Overlords'

The Huffington Post knows how to jazz up headlines from the Associated Press. On Monday, AP’s Steve Peoples and Julie Bykowicz penned a story originally headlined “As Republican infighting grows, donors call for calm.” The HuffPo put a dizzying spin on it: “Billionaire Overlords Urge GOP Presidential Contenders To Play Nice.”

“Overlords”? The word causes us to remember TV news anchor Kent Brockman on The Simpsons saying “I, for one, welcome our new insect overlords.”

The AP story also never mentioned “billionaire overlords.” They listed “investor” Foster Friess, “casino magnate” Sheldon Adelson, and “Chicago Cubs co-owner” Steve Ricketts. The story began:

Worried about "Republican-on-Republican violence," top party donors are taking action, with one firing off a letter calling for more civility and another seeking to block businessman Donald Trump from the debate stage altogether.

The ban-Trump advocate was described as merely  “Republican donor John Jordan.”

Friess asked the Republicans to consider Ronald Reagan’s “commandment” not to attack another Republican....even though Reagan at least nicked his competitors in 1976 and 1980.
