Daily Kos: Should the Tea Party Wear Swastikas on Their White Sheets?

October 26th, 2013 9:35 AM

During the George W. Bush years, the folks at Daily Kos routinely trashed conservatives and Republicans, but each of those groups have contained a few members (e.g., William F. Buckley Jr. and Dwight Eisenhower) that some Kossacks found semi-respectable.

Then, early in 2009, came the Tea Party, for which mere affiliation put one beyond the pale. The DKos gang has been rhetorically pummeling tea-partiers ever since.  This past week, for example, "ApostleOfCarlin" endorsed Rep. Alan Grayson's Tea Party-Ku Klux Klan analogy:

The Tea Party IS very close to the Ku Klux Klan. They're only at the barely-veiled-threat stage of the violence spiral, but they've got that same violence gene as the Klan. They've certainly got the same bigotry.

Alan Grayson has nothing to apologize for. He made a valid comparison, which shows how dangerous the Tea Party really is.

Let's keep the comparison going. How did the Ku Klux Klan look back in earlier eras? Look at their heyday, in the 1920's. The Klan was popular. The Klan was mainstream. It wasn't just a few meth-heads and child molesters wearing those white sheets back then. The Klan numbered in the millions, they were part of mainstream politics, they had political machines that got their people into elected office, and they wielded power.

Sound familiar?...

When you look at the demographics, the Klan back in the day, and the Tea Party of today are composed of the same assholes...

But "Murfster35" suggested that Grayson didn't go far enough:

The Nazis of early to mid 1920's Germany were a joke. A bunch of disaffected farmers and disgruntled low wage factory workers coalescing around an oratorical firebrand screaming about a return of the "good old days", and the purity of the Germanic culture. Sound anything like the modern Tea Party leaders like Half Term Palin, Pray the Gay Away Bachmann and Calgary Cruz screeching shrilly away about the good old days of a small government, unlimited liberties U.S. that never really existed?...

Under the Nazis, there was a HUGE propaganda apparatus headed by a human port-o-san named Josef Goebbels...Am I the only one who can connect the dots to the Rupert Murdoch owned, Roger Ailes managed slop trough of information called Fox News? And can there be any similarities to a sad and misanthropic group of individuals who are sooo incapable of an independent intelligent thought that they gleefully refer to themselves as "Dittoheads" while following the delusional ranting of a failed sportscaster?

And "RWN" merely alleged that tea-partiers were (or at least resemble) authoritarians, wild tigers, drug addicts...and Communists:

The Tea Party, or better, more accurately described as authoritarians without conscience, will continue to engineer [or manufacture] a financial crisis is because that is all they got. They...know no other means to conduct their politics but attack, attack, attack...

It is what it is, no different than a tiger who preys on whatever large game is available, even humans in the wild...

...What we need is a national intervention with the resolve of a family. Trouble is politics is not like that. But an intervention can and will take place on election day.

Throw out the Republican Congress and that will begin, though this Right Wing Authoritarianism will not just go away, they must be destroyed to a marginal wing of politics---like the Communist Party...
