Ronny Chieng Claims Haley Stevens Would Push Her Mom 'In Front of a Speeding Bus'

Comedy Central’s Ronny Chieng taped Tuesday’s episode of The Daily Show before any results came in, meaning he was still reacting to the pre-election news when the show aired. As part of his monologue, Chieng argued that Democratic Rep. Haley Stevens deciding to endorse GOP Senate candidate Mike Rogers was analogous to throwing her mother “in front of a speeding bus.”

Chieng introduced a clip of Stevens interacting with NewsNation correspondent Hannah Brandt by declaring, “Of course, it wasn't just everyday Americans voting — it was also America's sorest losers.”

In the clip, Brandt tried to get a comment out of Stevens, “You’re getting a lot of backlash. Does it feel worth it to have endorsed Mike Rogers today? Any comment at all about you're feeling—”

Stevens avoided the request, “Look, I'm with my mom. This is our tradition here.”

Chieng responded by not simply mocking Stevens’s hat but also portraying the move as a great betrayal, ‘“Yeah, me and my mom have this tradition where we betray all our core values and then put on a hat that looks like a giant Pringle. Please respect our privacy at this time.’ Leave Haley Stevens alone! She just wants to have a lovely day with her mom and then, after some quiet reflection, push her in front of a speeding bus.”

Throughout history, plenty of unsavory people have managed to get elected to the Senate. While Abdul El-Sayed managed to defeat Mike Rogers, that does not mean Stevens’s concerns about him and anti-Semitism will suddenly go away or that they were unfounded.
