After U.S. Homeland Security agents executed a judicially-authorized search warrant at Rep. Ilhan Omar’s (D-Minn.) home Monday, the Minnesota Republican Party quoted the congresswoman’s own words reacting to the 2023 indictment of her political enemy, then-former President Donald Trump.
“Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar’s home was raided early Monday morning by Department of Homeland Security Investigations (HIS) as part of an ongoing criminal fraud investigation into the Somalia-born congresswoman’s immigration paperwork,” The New York Post reported Monday, sharing the following statement by the U.S. Justice Department:
“Today in the Washington, D.C. area, Homeland Security Investigations executed a judicially authorized search warrant secured by the Department of Justice. This enforcement action is part of an ongoing federal investigation,.”
Rep. Omar responded to the raid by accusing Pres. Trump of “an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement” and a “campaign of political intimidation.”
Omar’s reaction Monday was in stark contrast to her statement responding to the indictment of Trump, a Republican, in 2023 – prompting Minnesota Republicans to use her own statement against her.
“Rather than issue our own statement, we'll defer to Rep. Omar. She said it best back in 2023, when the subject of a criminal investigation was someone else,” Minnesota Republican Party Chair Alex Plechash explained Monday in a X.com post:
“‘Our democracy rests on the rule of law. When someone—no matter how powerful they are—is suspected of a criminal act, our justice system investigates, charges, and convicts them in accordance with due process.’
'Now it is up to all of us, as citizens and elected leaders, to support accountability and to follow the facts where they lead.'
“‘No one is above the law.’
“We couldn't agree more, Congresswoman. We're sure you still feel the same way now that it's your front door. Minnesotans will be watching closely, and so will we."

“Our democracy rests on the rule of law. When someone—no matter how powerful they are—is suspected of a criminal act, our justice system investigates, charges, and convicts them in accordance with due process.
“This is just one of many criminal acts for which Donald Trump is being investigated. Make no mistake: the fact that one of the most powerful people in the world was investigated impartially and indicted is testament to the fact that we still live in a nation of laws. And no one is above the law.
“Now it is up to all of us, as citizens and elected leaders, to support accountability and to follow the facts where they lead. Political interference in a criminal investigation, up to and including incitement of violence, are hallmarks of democratic decline. I hope all of my colleagues will join me in supporting justice and accountability—regardless of party—for the sake of our democracy.”
