Now that America was a month out from the critical midterm elections, America’s number one daytime talk show and purported “bona fide news program,” The View ramped up their electioneering efforts during Monday’s episode. They sent the tone early with arguments that President Trump didn’t care about the nation’s kids and to vote accordingly, and ended their political conversations for the day with outgoing Republican Senator Thom Tillis (NC) hawking his anti-Trump book.
“Listen, the bottom line is this: people are spending a lot of money to try to change your mind,” moderator Whoopi Goldberg huffed. “I don't know that the American people feel like being bought. They are trying to BUY your vote. You have the right to make up your own mind and God bless you for having that right.”
Engaging in more electioneering, Goldberg told viewers to ignore President Trump’s “last minute” efforts bring down prices and help with affordability. She insisted that Trump didn’t care about them nor their kids and to vote accordingly:
None of this last minute, you know, let's put the fire out stuff should matter because two years people have been trying to get their kids together, to get their lives together, to do the things to keep normalicy [sic] in their lives and for two years they have not helped. And that's all you have to remember. What it is you want and vote the way you think you should.

As further proof that the episode was geared toward making a pre-Election Day case against Trump, they invited Tillis on to hawk his new anti-Trump book How to Lose Friends and Antagonize Presidents. Goldberg even boasted how they use the same insults of Trump:
Republican Senator Thom Tillis has built a reputation for calling out his own party and the guy in the White House. So, his new book is very appropriately titled How to Lose Friends and Antagonize Presidents. Please welcome Senator Thom Tillis.
Well, the book certainly lives up to its title. I mean, you go after a number of you-know-who's policies, from his hiring choices. And I have to say, you kind of voted for a lot of these folks. And so, you also call them out for being a snowflake. So have we.

Amid their conversation about Tillis’s book sharing contentious messages between him and Trump, The View cast warned Tillis that Trump might publicly share his cellphone number as he’s done with others. Tillis responded with a threat of a retaliatory release of the President’s cellphone number:
ANA NAVARRO: He’s gonna give your phone away after this.
ALYSSA FARAH GRIFFIN: I was going to say, it might be tweeted.
TILLIS: Well, you know, with all due respect, I got his number, too.

But things weren’t all sunshine and rose between Tillis and the cast.
Co-host Sunny Hostin threw a hissy fit after Tillis recalled that the public’s reaction to Democratic Party overreach during the Obama administration was what helped get him elected to the Senate.
“I don't think you can compare the overreach in the Obama administration than the overreach of this president,” Hostin snapped.
As Tillis was trying to make the case it was an escalation each time and not a direct comparison, Hostin interrupted him and demanded they move onto a different topic:
TILLIS: Oh yeah. We keep on besting each other. That's part of the premise of the book too.
HOSTIN: Let's just move on because what Trump has done is unprecedented. I don't think it's fair to compare the two. I think - But anyway -- I think it's terribly disingenuous to make that type of comparison.

As the Media Research Center has argued to the Federal Communications Commission, ABC and The View’s constant electioneering on the public broadcast spectrum was a violation of their broadcast licenses.

WHOOPI GOLDBERG: Listen, the bottom line is this: people are spending a lot of money to try to change your mind. People are saying, ‘oh, you're going to get a check, you're going to get this, you're going to get that.’
I don't know that the American people feel like being bought. They are trying to BUY your vote. You have the right to make up your own mind and God bless you for having that right.
[Applause]
You know? You have the right to make up your mind.
None of this last minute, you know, let's put the fire out stuff should matter because two years people have been trying to get their kids together, to get their lives together, to do the things to keep normalicy [sic] in their lives and for two years they have not helped. GOLDBERG: Welcome back. Welcome back. Republican Senator Thom Tillis has built a reputation for calling out his own party and the guy in the White House. So, his new book is very appropriately titled How to Lose Friends and Antagonize Presidents.
Please welcome Senator Thom Tillis.
[Applause]
Well, the book certainly lives up to its title. I mean, you go after a number of you-know-who's policies, from his hiring choices. And I have to say, you kind of voted for a lot of these folks. And so, you also call them out for being a snowflake. So have we. So, and yet, you still say you support him and call him an amazing political talent. What am I missing?
SEN. THOM TILLIS (R-NC): The fact that he's won two national elections. I mean, the fact of the matter is he has a way of pulling together coalitions.
SUNNY HOSTIN: He lost one, too.
TILLIS: That's true. He's got people that voted for him in North Carolina that you - wouldn't have voted for me under any circumstances. So, he creates these coalitions, he resonates with people and -- and I think he's a great political force. I'm hoping that we can do that for good and I think we're going to see the results of being out of touch with some of the voters in November.

TILLIS: We talk ourselves - The party in power talks themselves into an overreach that makes me as speaker of the House and actually makes me a U.S. Senator based on the overreach of the Obama administration.
HOSTIN: I don't think you can compare the overreach in the Obama administration than the overreach of this president.
TILLIS: Oh yeah. We keep on besting each other. That's part of the premise of the book too.

[Applause]
I think it's terribly disingenuous to make that type of comparison.

HOSTIN: In the book you include some private exchanges with the President after he called you a loser and took credit for forcing you out of the Senate, actually. You claim to have written him denying his account and saying, “I would have immediately told you to go blank yourself and I don't take this BS from anyone including you, Mr. President.”
Did you hear back from him?
TILLIS: Actually, we've talked or texted back and forth several times since then and I’ve spoken with him.
HOSTIN: Really?
TILLIS: Yeah.
ANA NAVARRO: He’s gonna give your phone away after this.
ALYSSA FARAH GRIFFIN: I was going to say, it might be tweeted.
TILLIS: Well, you know, with all due respect, I got his number, too.
[Audience hoots and howls]
HOSTIN: Now, earlier we talked about the President supposedly giving out the cellphone number of Senator Tom Cotton, so you should be concerned about your phone number. But in a dispute over policy. Are you concerned about the president coming after you after he has someone read this book to him?
TILLIS: Not at all.
[Laughter]
