There's truly nothing sillier for Jake Tapper to lecture about than "the cocoon of tribalism." Anti-Trump tribalism is the hourly formula on the Cable "News" Network. Tapper thinks he can denounce "certain folks in ideological media" for spewing hate as if CNN isn't "ideological" or spewing hate. At the end of Sunday's State of the Union came this remarkable exercise in total amnesia for what CNN has become over the last 11 years.
Tapper led into this Sunday sermonette by running clips of Vice President J.D. Vance telling Democrat Senate candidate Angie Nixon to get out of America with her socialism, and Secretary of War Pete Hegseth accusing the media of "treason" for how they report super-negatively on the Iran War.
This would assume socialists are never divisive, and leftists never accuse conservatives of "treason." Tapper would deny he's being biased here. He might pretend to be denouncing both sides. But he's only running clips of Team Trump. Because that's what his audience wants. Here it is, this remarkable lecture:

TAPPER: The cocoon of tribalism is no doubt cozy for those of brittle spirit. It's also dangerous. Last year, Pew polled 25 countries as to what folks thought about the morality and ethics of their fellow citizens in those countries; 92 percent of Canadians, for example, approved of their fellow citizens in that respect.
Americans were not only the most likely country to question the morality and ethics of our fellow country men and women. America was the only country surveyed where more adults describe their fellow countrymen as bad than good.
Are we as Americans truly worse people than the average Indonesian or Swede or Brit? I don't think so. I think it's pretty clear that certain leaders and certain folks in ideological media and the algorithms on our phone are giving out cheap endorphin hits by introducing you to people to hate.
Whether politicians or podcasts, these people are doing so they can make money and accrue power. Hate is easy. Hate is lazy. It's comfort food for the weak. But they're selling to us -- they're selling it to us because it works.
Thanks for spending your Sunday morning with us.
This kind of calculated cluelessness about what CNN is? That's the kind of messaging they all worry about new ownership will "ruin." The arrogant leftist takes, pretending that they're neither arrogant nor leftist.
