Who is in the majority in Congress right now? If you watch TV news stories on congressional hearings, you're mostly given angry soundbites of yelling Democrats. Hearings featuring Trump officials were presented to make those officials look controversial, unpopular, and ineffective.
NewsBusters managing editor Curtis Houck and MRC Video's lead content creator Brittany Hughes join the show to discuss this exercise in distributing hot DNC takes.
Plus: On Wednesday, President Trump posted our MRC special report on Truth Social: "Apple News promotes left-leaning media outlets — as it shuts out conservative outlets entirely."
That's our one-of-a-kind research getting the ultimate spotlight. We analyzed 620 top stories featured on Apple News in January and found zero coverage from conservative outlets.
The New York Post covered our report and caught the President’s eye. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt and Sean Hannity both posted it to their millions of followers on X. Fox Business ran with it on Varney & Co. and other programs. Elon Musk commented “wow” to the report last week.
But CNN's Brian Stelter had to disparage it: "MRC wants more links to "right-leaning publications," but the reality is that those publications rarely break big stories. Right-wing media is mostly reactive, meaning regurgitating and opining on news reported from elsewhere."
When a gender-denying person shoots up a school, the police and the media are more sensitive to the mass shooter than they are to the dead people. It happened again at a Canadian high school, where the so-called "gun person" killed his mother and brother before going to the school and killing six more people, most of them teenaged students.
CNN.com mangled the truth, reporting "Police identified the alleged shooter in Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia, as Jesse Van Rootselaar, an 18-year-old female resident of the town who had dropped out of school approximately four years ago.”
Canada's National Post newspaper quickly went into Trans Defense mode: “Five transgender people have previously been implicated in mass shootings, but U.S. organizations say they account for less than one tenth of one percent of such shootings, despite being a larger proportion of the population.”
Vicki McKenna tweeted about Target selling a "DUMP HER" shirt....Laura and I were in Target yesterday, and they also had "HARD PASS" (on like a candy heart) and "Emotionally Unavailable." Do they wear these to the clubs? Plus the "I'm Unwell" merch coming from podcaster Alex Cooper.
This is MRC at full strength: Our work sparks conversations at the highest levels — with Trump, Musk, Fox News, New York Post, and top media outlets — and delivers results, such as our research and advocacy that led Congress to defund PBS/NPR.
Federal Trade Commission Chairman Andrew Ferguson put Apple on notice Wednesday following the release of several Media Research Center studies exposing the tech giant’s prolonged blackout of right-leaning sources on Apple News.
In a letter addressed to Apple CEO Tim Cook, Ferguson warned that Apple could face potential violations of federal consumer-protection law if it claims neutrality in its terms of service while suppressing content based on political or ideological viewpoint. It’s not a censorship issue, but material misrepresentation.
