Tough on Criminal Justice Reform
Republicans and conservatives dating back at least to Richard Nixon have used the slogan "tough on crime" and its corollary "lock 'em up and throw away the key" as electoral red meat. The problem is what to do when inmates are released with few skills, fewer job prospects and a bleak future that leads some to commit new crimes that land them in prison again at taxpayers' expense.
Stop Wishing Her ‘Merry Christmas,’ You Monsters!
You have to respect the proficiency and determination of a lefty to get one last whine in before 2018 limps to its end and the new year dawns with all it’s fresh possibilities for new grievances. Julia Ioffe, a correspondent for GQ, is one such intrepid complainer. It seems some people have had the effrontery to wish her a Merry Christmas.
Whatever Happened to Skid Row?
WASHINGTON -- Homelessness is up for the second year in a row. That is no surprise to me. I spent the last few days in New York City, where it seems the homeless are as numerous as the tourists. They are everywhere. Not that they are not numerous in our nation's capital, too. I returned to Washington by the train, and there are areas of Union Station that are as populated with homeless people as…
PANIC: Celebs Freak Over Border Wall
The showbiz left, secure in their swanky California and Manhattan digs, can’t honestly be expected to care much about border security. But, the most strident voices have chosen recently to outright denigrate it, too assured of their inherent goodness and cosmopolitan virtue signaling. Here are some Twitter highlights:
NYT Uses Ryan to Rage Against ‘Ultraconservative...Outrage Machine'
New York Times reporter Julie Hirschfeld Davis delivered a not-particularly friendly farewell to House Speaker and former vice-presidential candidate Paul Ryan of Wisconsin on Thursday. The story is notable for ideological labeling that’s severely slanted even for a Times story, with the prefix “ultra” dropped on Republicans no less than three times in this one report.
‘Slow-Jam’ Obama Appears on ‘Hamilton Song’ Remix
In the effort to serve up stories about the founding fathers with a modern, liberal, hip hop twist, Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda has done it again. He has just dropped a new remix of one of his kitschy broadway showtunes that features everyone’s favorite cool guy president, Barack Obama.
Reuters Cheers the 'Hope' of Assisted Suicide Being Legalized in Spain
One easily demonstrable way that secular media outlets underline their secularism is on issues like euthanasia, or as they like to call it, the "right to die." Reuters reporter Sabela Ojea issued a very one-sided dispatch from Spain with a hope-and-change headline: "As Spain readies euthanasia law, dying sclerosis victim senses hope." Nowhere in the Reuters dispatch is there an opposing view,…
‘Hardball’ Trashes Limbaugh as an ‘Unelected’ ‘Wizard of Oz’ Character
Ignoring the fact that conservative talk radio listeners and Fox News viewers make up most of the Republican base, MSNBC’s Hardball host Chris Matthews and guests of both parties lashed out at both and particularly “unelected” conservative icon Rush Limbaugh for being “the man behind the curtain in The Wizard of Oz” running the country instead of — spoiler alert — them.
Nets: ‘Chaos’ as We ‘Hurtle Towards a Shutdown’ After Trump ‘Torpedo'
All three networks went into red alert on Friday, hyperventilating about the “chaos” of a shutdown showdown after Donald Trump “torpedoed” a deal as he demanded funding for a border wall. Of course, the blame went to Republicans. Today co-host Hoda Kotb blasted, “Critics saying it is up to the President and his party to break the gridlock.”
Limbaugh Tells Full Story on Prison Reform, Newsweek Doesn't
Newsweek breaking news reporter Benjamin Fearnow covered Wednesday's comments by Rush Limbaugh (see photo) on the criminal justice reform bill that easily passed Congress. Limbaugh claimed the bill steals one of the major issues, prison reform for nonviolent criminals, that Colin Kaepernick and other athletes have been have been demanding through their anthem protests.
Ratings Envy? CNN’s New Day Mocks Fox News Influence on Trump
Serious commentary, or just a bad case of ratings envy rearing its ugly head? On CNN's New Day this morning, former Bill Clinton spokesman Joe Lockhart, now a CNN political commentator, took some ugly shots at two of the Fox & Friends crew. Reacting to President Trump's decision not to sign a government funding bill that would not have included money for the border wall, Lockhart said that…
Day Three of Network Fawning Over Lefty Cheney Film: ‘So Much Buzz!’
For the third day in a row, one of the three networks fawned over Vice, the far-left hit job about the life of former Vice President Dick Cheney. Good Morning America co-host Lara Spencer on Thursday touted “so much buzz” for the nasty, conspiracy-filled movie. This comes after GMA pushed the movie on Wednesday and CBS This Morning hosts interviewed the film’s director on Tuesday.
‘Murphy Brown’ Finale Calls Ted Cruz a 'Boil on the A** of Humanity'
The season finale of Murphy Brown aired on CBS December 20 and the script included snarky remarks about Vice President Mike Pence and Senator Ted Cruz. Corky Sherwood wants to interview Pence and she maneuvers a way to ask him some questions in an unusual way, while Cruz gets a terrible insult randomly thrown his way.
Tucker Mocks CNN for Awarding ‘Journalist of the Year’ to Fake Newser
On Thursday, Germany’s largest newspaper, Der Spiegel suffered a massive embarrassment when it was discovered that one of their more prominent reporters, Claas Relotius, made-up many of his stories. To make the discovery even funnier, CNN had once given him their “Journalist of the Year” commendation. It was an opportunity Fox News Channel host Tucker Carlson couldn’t pass up, especially…
