Eleanor Clift of The Daily Beast profiled former New York Times executive editor Jill Abramson, and suggested  she’s best known for asserting “the Obama administration is the most secretive of any she has covered, and in 22 years in Washington, that covers a lot of White Houses. She got plenty of grief from President Obama’s top aides in the aftermath, and while other journalists made the same observation, Abramson’s words carried weight, coming as they did from the prestigious newspaper’s first female top editor.”

Clift added “Two months after leaving the Times, in case anyone is wondering, she isn’t backing down from that assertion, but backing it up with concrete examples and inside anecdotes."

Now online: the May 26 edition of Notable Quotables, MRC's bi-weekly compilation of the latest outrageous quotes in the liberal media. This week, CNN’s top executive boasts that his network will not be “shamed” into covering congressional hearings about the September 11, 2012 attack in Benghazi, as if engaging in actual journalism is something to be avoided.

Also, the media leap to defend Hillary Clinton after Karl Rove dared to doubt her health, with network reporters denouncing his “smear campaign” and “reprehensible comments.” Highlights are posted after the jump; the entire issue is posted online, with 21 quotes at www.MRC.org

The Daily Beast’s Eleanor Clift is at it again, this time tripling-down on her ridiculous assertion that Ambassador Chris Stevens “was not murdered” in the Benghazi terrorist attack.

Clift penned a May 15 article in The Daily Beast entitled “My Benghazi Scandal” where she proclaimed “I may be under fire from conservatives for saying Ambassador Stevens wasn’t murdered in Benghazi, but I’m not backing down. Here’s why I said what I did.” [Update included below.]

Appearing on The Steve Malzberg Show on Newsmax, Eleanor Clift, writer for The Daily Beast, repeated her assertion that Ambassador Chris Stevens “was not murdered” in the Benghazi terrorist attack.

Clift made her initial comments on the PBS program The McLaughlin Group on May 11 and despite being pressed by Malzberg on Tuesday, May 13, she insisted that Ambassador Stevens was not murdered: “Dying of smoke inhalation in the safe room of a CIA outpost has a slightly different feeling.” [See video below.]

Eleanor Clift stunned the McLaughlin Group panel over the weekend when she shockingly claimed that Ambassador Chris Stevens “was not murdered” in the Benghazi terrorist attacks.

The Daily Beast contributor, in full White House spin control mode, gallingly spewed: “ I would like to point out that Ambassador [Chris] Stevens was not murdered. He died of smoke-inhalation in the safe room in that CIA installation.”

Fellow panelists Susan Ferrechio and Pat Buchanan, not surprisingly, let Clift have it.

We've heard it all before. Here we go again. More of the same. Can't we just move on? Those are the sort of classic liberal pundit one-liners that Clinton apologists used in the former president's tenure in office to respond to fresh scandalous revelations, seeking to guide public opinion to scandal fatigue.

Daily Beast's Eleanor Clift is singing from that song sheet now as she seeks to shield Hillary Clinton in the run-up to her 2016 presidential bid. Here's Clift in her March 13 piece "Sharks are Circling Hillary Clinton," not-so-subtly comparing conservative Clinton critics to terrorists (emphasis mine):

Everyone proposes drinking games for the State of the Union speech. But it’s not just the president that can drive you to drink. It’s the opportunistic media elites deciding which branches of government have too much power, depending on which branches the Democrats presently control.

After a lot of stalemate in 2013, the partisan media think it’s high time for the executive branch to go completely around the legislative branch. They think that now that Congress has proven itself unwilling to provide Barack Obama with the historical greatness he deserves, they should and must be driven around like roadkill. They’ll have no talk of an imperial presidency, let alone autocracy.

Just in time for Halloween, the Daily Beast's Eleanor Clift said something that should scare the heck out of people on both sides of the aisle.

Appearing on CNN's Reliable Sources, Clift actually said, "I say to myself every day Eleanor, think less tweet more" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

Syndicated columnist Pat Buchanan and the Daily Beast’s Eleanor Clift got into quite a heated debate about the government shutdown on PBS’s McLaughlin Group Friday.

At one point, Buchanan said Obama “wants to maximize the pain in order to maximize his political gain…It is a sinister and sadistic tactic” (video follows with transcript and commentary):

Syndicated columnist Pat Buchanan made a statement Friday guaranteed to make liberal media members' heads spin.

During a discussion about Affirmative Action on PBS's McLaughlin Group, Buchanan said, "Whites are the only group that you can discriminate against legally in America now" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

There was a very funny moment at the end of Friday's McLaughlin Group on PBS when the entire panel unanimously predicted that Anthony Weiner would drop out of the New York City mayor's race.

This included syndicated columnist Pat Buchanan, the Economist's David Rennie, U.S. News & World Report's Mort Zuckerman, host John McLaughlin, and quite surprisingly Newsweek/Daily Beast's Eleanor Clift (video follows with commentary):

It’s been almost sick-making watching Obama-loving media members gush and fawn over his address to the nation Friday concerning race and the George Zimmerman verdict.

One nauseating example was Newsweek’s Eleanor Clift who said on PBS’s McLaughlin Group, “The President’s remarks on Friday are going to be read by future generations. They’re beautiful, they’re eloquent” (video follows with transcript and commentary):
