CBS News decided to cover Ted Cruz's liberal opponent, Rep. Beto O'Rourke, answering a question about his position on well-paid professional football players kneeling during the national anthem. He gave the pat liberal answer: “I can think of nothing more American than to peacefully stand up or take a knee for your rights anytime, anywhere, any place.” CBS reported LeBron James and Ellen DeGeneres adored Beto's take. Ted Cruz said it sounded like Beto's Hollywood donors, not Texas voters.
Isn't it funny when liberals say there's "nothing more American" than spitting in the face of our police officers? Unless it's spitting in the face of our military? CBS didn't find it "more American" when Joe Wilson protested President Obama with "You lie" at the State of the Union address. CBS wouldn't find it newsworthy if we said there's "nothing more American" than telling the liberal news media they're Fake News. Especially Dan Rather.
Josh Feldman at Mediaite chronicled how Liberal Twitter had a cow over how CBS summarized it:
Beto O'Rourke says there's "nothing more American" than NFL players protesting the national anthem
Because liberal networks are quick to respond to liberal criticism, they changed the headline to:
Beto O’Rourke says "nothing more American" than to stand up or take a knee for your rights
They added an Editor's Note at the top of the story as well:
Editor’s Note: The headline of this story has been changed to more wholly reflect O’Rourke’s remarks and correct a previous headline that stated O’Rourke said there was “nothing more American” than NFL players protesting the national anthem. Players who kneel during the national anthem are protesting police brutality and racial inequality. The original tweet to this story, which included the incorrect headline, has been deleted.
On the other hand, we're still waiting for CBS News to correct itself on the claim that Donald Trump knew about the 2016 Trump Tower meeting with Russians in advance.
MSNBC host Lawrence O'Donnell ably represented the anger on Liberal Twitter:
Speaking of "disgraceful failures," O'Donnell ends his show every night by handing off the network to Lyin' Brian Williams. Maybe he shouldn't be this angry at CBS.
Tom Elliott of Grabien replied to O'Donnell:
Kaepernick was pretty explicit that he was protesting America, not police: “I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color.”
It's fine to say protesting for your viewpoint is American. But liberals always think there's "nothing more American" than liberal protest. They can't seem to accept that the time and place of this protest is the problem (and their opportunity).
