Violent protests have been taking place outside of the Delaney Hall ICE detention center in Newark, New Jersey since May 22nd, and through it all, the left wing media has been focused on pushing the narrative that ICE was to blame for the confrontations. Last Friday, ICE Agents were mostly replaced by New Jersey State Police, and yet the violence has continued, so the media has turned it's attention to the alleged horrible conditions inside the facility, while mostly ignoring the ongoing violence, as was the case Monday on CNN's Erin Burnett OutFront.
As Burnett introduced House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, she managed to squeeze in just about every leftist talking point, while seeming to justify what is now expected violence.
BURNETT: Breaking news, "Shut it down." The top Democrat in the House today calling for the Delaney Hall immigration facility in New Jersey to close its doors. And that comes as the state is bracing for another night of protests outside that facility. The protests are over alleged inhumane conditions inside the facility, which has 1,000 beds. The allegations are that there are worms in the food. Extreme cold, overcrowded rooms, lack of medical care for detainees, some of whom may have cancer or diabetes, and numerous people were arrested last night for protesting.... And leader Jeffries.... can you tell me specifically what did you see and witness during your visit that convinced you that Delaney Hall has to be shut down?
Of course, Jeffries began with a patented attack on President Trump and ICE.
JEFFRIES: Donald Trump promised that immigration enforcement in this country was going to target violent felons, and the worst of the worst. That's not what has happened. Taxpayer dollars are being used to brutalize or kill American citizens, which is what we horrifically saw happen in Minneapolis, or to violently target, law abiding immigrant families.
With that out of the way, how about some of the requested specifics?
JEFFRIES: Not a single person who we spoke with at Delaney Hall yesterday was a violent felon, someone who had been convicted of a crime or presented a danger, as far as we can tell, to the community. In fact, we spent a good amount of time with an 18 year old girl who was a month away from finishing her high school graduation and has been detained now in Delaney Hall for months.
As far as we can tell? Interestingly, Burnett did not ask what that means, or why the 18-year-old girl was inside the facility, what the charges were, or what charges other inmates were facing. Specifics?
JEFFRIES: We also spent some time talking to a whole lot of folks with serious medical conditions who clearly have not gotten basic medical care.
Burnett might have asked Jeffries, what specifically led him to believe that these inmates were seriously ill or that they did not receive even basic medical care. Nah. She did however present a statement from DHS
BURNETT: "Sanctuary politicians are spreading categorically false smears about ICE's Delaney Hall facility in New Jersey. These types of smears are inciting violent riots outside the ICE facility in New Jersey. No lawbreakers in the history of human civilization have been better treated than illegal aliens."
What do you say to that?
And it was back to the talking points for Jeffries.
JEFFRIES: It's a wildly irresponsible claim, but this is what we should expect from the Department of Homeland Security and ICE, which is deeply unpopular with the American people and from the Trump administration. Not a day goes by without them peddling a lie to the American people. And they obviously are trying to distract from the fact that the administration has been a total failure, a failure on the economy, a failure on immigration enforcement, a failure as it relates to this reckless and costly war of choice in the Middle East.
And knowing the dangers involved, Jeffries urged people to come on out to Delaney Hall.
JEFFRIES: We will continue to encourage people who show up outside of Delaney Hall to comply with the law and to peacefully demonstrate, consistent with the First Amendment.
Burnett didn't talk about the continued violence, or ask Jeffries if he'd want his family members to show up, nor did she get the specifics she had requested from him or present specifics offered by DHS in response to all of his charges and more. It was Anti-ICE TV.
