CNN's Ivan Watson Pushes Anti-Israel, Pro-Hezbollah Narrative on War in Lebanon

April 10th, 2026 1:06 PM

It seems that ever since the announcement of a ceasefire in the Iran War, and the uncertainties that have gone along with it, the liberal media has upped it's usual anti-Israel reporting and rhetoric from the status quo to a brand new level. This includes accusing Israel of violating the deal, and targeting and murdering innocent civilians, as they retaliate against Hezbollah terrorists in Lebanon, who joined the war on behalf of Iran, and have been firing their missiles at civilians inside Israel.

Case in point, early Thursday morning on CNN's The Story Is With Elex Michaelson, Michaelson welcomed in CNN Correspondent Ivan Watson (formerly with NPR) with this request, " Tell us more about about what we are seeing in Lebanon and the extraordinary damage we saw overnight."

WATSON: And death, quite frankly, the deadliest day of this round of this war. Hours after Iran and the U.S. announced a ceasefire, Elex, Israel carried out a massive bombardment of the Lebanese capital and large parts of the country. As the Israeli military said it was 100 targets in about ten minutes. The Israeli media says the name of this operation was "Eternal Darkness." The Lebanese Prime Minister has declared a day of mourning after in a single day, at least 182 people were killed and some 890 people were wounded.

The Israeli military says it was targeting Hezbollah command centers. I know some of the neighborhoods that were bombed in Beirut. They are areas that are Sunni Muslim or Christian that do not support Hezbollah and that are busy on an afternoon, busy for school children and and shopping and commuters.

Watson cited no Hezbollah targets hit. In fact the Israeli Defense Minister has claimed that, "The IDF attacked hundreds of Hezbollah terrorists in headquarters across Lebanon in a surprise attack. This is the largest concentrated blow Hezbollah has suffered since the "Beepers Operation" in 2024. After playing clips from some select witnesses, Watson continued his one sided commentary.

WATSON: A growing list of governments, including Spain, Qatar, Turkey, France, the U.N. Secretary General have condemned the Israeli bombardment saying this is a violation of the two-week ceasefire

Are we supposed to consider those on that list as impartial observers when it comes to Israel? And of course President Trump has stated that the ceasefire did not include Lebanon and Hezbollah, but that didn't deter Watson.

WATSON: I might add that before the 182 people were killed on Wednesday, the death toll within Lebanon as a result of a month of Israeli bombardment, stood at more than 1700 people killed, some 5800 people wounded, and the Israeli airstrikes had killed at least 130 children in Lebanon.

Watson throws around plenty of numbers, but never tells his viewers who his source is. He speaks of "Israeli bombardment," but never mentions that a little over a month ago, Hezbollah and Iran launched coordinated cluster bomb attacks on Israel. And then it was Michaelson's turn to play along.

MICHAELSON: All these leaders from around the world are telling Israel, stop. President Trump, at least not publicly saying stop. But if he either privately or publicly said to Benjamin Netanyahu, knock it off man, we're trying to do a ceasefire here. We're trying to get the Strait reopen. What are you doing? I mean, would basically Netanyahu have to stop?

Watson then trashed Netanyahu and informed us that Iran believes Israel and the U.S. are violating the ceasefire agreement, before adding another name to the list.

WATSON: I have to point out that the Pakistani Prime Minister, when he announced the ceasefire, which was very much mediated by Pakistan, he included Lebanon as part of the ceasefire. I find it hard to imagine that the Pakistani government would take such a risk with its own credibility and misrepresent a ceasefire agreement between the U.S. and Iran publicly.

Did Watson say Pakistan and credibility in the same sentence?  The same Pakistan who has close ties with Iran? The same Pakistan whose Defense Minister just called Israel 'an evil and cancerous State' who is committing genocide in Lebanon? The same Pakistan who classified Benjamin Netanyahu as a terrorist in 2024? Maybe Watson should look in the mirror on the topic of credibility. CNN too.
