This midterm season has seen the mainstream media downplaying outbreaks of crime, and its causes, across the country, an issue that polls badly for Democrats. So it’s not a shock that the networks on Monday morning buried a shooting outside New York Congressman (and GOP gubernatorial candidate) Lee Zeldin’s home. Zeldin’s two teenage daughters were home alone and were just feet away from the shooting.
Yet, ABC’s Good Morning America and NBC’s Today avoided the story on Monday morning, despite a combined four hours of available air time. CBS Mornings only allowed a seven-second mention in the show’s “eye opener” tease, and that was a local news recap.
CBS Morning News DID find time for the story on Monday. However, the 68-second report aired at 4:04 AM on the overnight show.
Over on Fox News, America’s Newsroom reporter David Lee Miller offered a full report. Miller explained:
[Congressman Zeldin] says what happened yesterday outside of his Long Island home literally brought the problem to his doorstep. A little after 2:00 in the afternoon, while he and his wife were campaigning, his twin daughters were home alone when gunshots rang out. He says one of the bullets landed 30 feet from where the girls were sitting in the kitchen, doing homework.
Miller added:
Police say it was a drive-by shooting and that the two victims tried to hide in the congressman's front yard. A third person was not struck.... Congressman Zeldin says his family could have become victims and repeating his call to stop New York's crime wave.
Major crime in New York City has skyrocketed 37 percent this year.
Back in July, the evening newscasts and morning shows offered scant notice after a stabbing attempt of Zeldin by a man who rushed the stage at an event.
Additionally, the networks are hiding four Geore Soros-backed, soft-on-crime DAs from big cities, Democrats who might harm the party in the midterms.

In the next few hours, he is expected to take part in the New York City Columbus day parade. And as you mention, he has made crime a central issue of his campaign. He says what happened yesterday outside of his Long Island home literally brought the problem to his doorstep. A little after 2:00 in the afternoon, while he and his wife were campaigning, his twin daughters were home alone when gunshots rang out. He says one of the bullets landed 30 feet from where the girls were sitting in the kitchen, doing homework. They hid in the bathroom and called 911. Outside the front door, two 17-year-olds were wounded and treated for a non-life threatening injuries. Police say it was a drive-by shooting and that the two victims tried to hide in the congressman's front yard. A third person was not struck. The shooter is still being shot. Police believe Zeldin and his family had no connection to the shooting, other than the fact the random location was close to where they lived. Congressman Zeldin says his family could have become victims and repeating his call to stop New York's crime wave.
ZELDIN: Unfortunately for new yorkers it wasn't the only story yesterday. Somebody else got stabbed on a New York City subway. Somebody else got slashed in the East Village. This is day after day after day and there are a lot of parents and families dealing with this reality of rising crime in new York.
MILLER: Zeldin's opponent Kathy Hochul, who critics accuse of being soft on crime, said in a tweet last night, quote “I've been briefed on the shooting outside of Congressman Zeldin's home. As we wait for more details, I’m relieved to hear the Zeldin family is safe and grateful for law enforcement’s quick response.”
