NBC Allows 12 Seconds on Hero Guardsman Who Drowned at Border, CBS Still Silent

The network newscasts are still burying the heroic, tragic story of Bishop E. Evans of Arlington Texas. This Army National Guardsman jumped in the Rio Grande River on Friday to save two migrants who were drowning, losing his own life in the process. NBC finally covered the story on Tuesday night, but just for a scant 12 seconds. CBS STILL hasn’t discussed his sacrifice.

On the NBC Nightly News, reporter Morgan Chesky covered a Republican delegation visiting the border to see the crisis. During that segment, he managed to note this: “The group also honored Specialist Bishop Evans, a National Guardsman whose body was recovered today in the Rio Grande. Authorities say he disappeared in a fast current Friday, trying to save two drowning migrants.”

That 12 seconds was all of NBC’s coverage so far on Evans — and again, this young man went missing on Friday.

ABC’s Good Morning America on Saturday allowed just 20 seconds on the soldier. Here’s reporter Whit Johnson:

And happening now, the search for a member of the Texas Army National Guard. The soldier disappeared while patrolling the Rio Grande Friday. Part of the state's operation crackdown on illegal immigration and drug smuggling. Witnesses reportedly say the soldier jumped into the river trying to save a migrant crossing into the U.S. but they never saw him come back.

Still, the 12 seconds on NBC and the 20 seconds on ABC are better than the -- so far -- 0 seconds on CBS. And this is the same CBS that, last Thursday, CBS mocked Texas and the state’s National Guard troops for an “expensive political stunt” to secure the border.

Back in September of 2021, the networks jumped on the now-debunked story that Border Patrol agents “whipped” migrants crossing the border. They ignored the legal clearing of these individuals. It also seems that network journalists don’t want to cover heroic members of our military who risk their lives to save migrants.

The minimizing of this story on NBC was sponsored by Downy. The ignoring of it on CBS was sponsored by Neutrogena. Click on the links to let them know what you think.
