Williams Mocks Manchin as Not a Man of the People (Brian Is Worth $50 Million)

December 8th, 2021 2:35 PM

Brian Williams’s time at MSNBC is finally coming to an end. In a few days, the disgraced former Nightly News anchor is leaving the cable network that propped him up after losing his previous job over telling multiple lies. But Williams isn’t going out quietly. The anchor on Wednesday night ranted about the most pressing problem for liberals: Joe Manchin.

Williams played a fairly innocuous clip of Manchin telling a crowd: “I've never changed. I have never changed. I am the same person. I am fiscally responsible and socially compassionate.” Talking to political strategist Mark McKinnon, the very wealthy Williams sneered, “So Mark, is it safe to assume the modest, Maserati-driving, houseboat-living man from West Virginia is a 'no' on the Biden bill?”

Williams is mocking someone for not being a man of the people? His net worth is $50 million. Not exactly a Regular Joe himself. The MSNBC host derided the people of West Virginia this way: “A state so red, it's visible from space.”

The soon-to-be unemployed Williams apparently isn’t good at math because he then wondered if the Democrats, who only have 50 seats in a 100 seat chamber, could “do without” the moderate Manchin:

Mark, I realize one side of the aisle you hail from originally. I ask this in sincerity. Do you think he's a positive thing in any way, a positive force for this process? Do you think he belongs in the Democratic caucus in the Senate? Could they work out a trade? Could they do without his vote?

The answer to that question, for the math-impaired, is no.

Williams clearly has a problem with moderates like Manchin. Back in June, he encouraged Biden on handling his fellow Democrats: “Put less classily, lot of people would like to see [Biden] start throwing punches, kicking ass and taking names.”

WILLIAMS: So Mark, is it safe to assume the modest, Maserati-driving, houseboat-living man from West Virginia is a "no" on the Biden bill?

...

MARK MCKINNON: In it’s current form, surely.

....

WILLIAMS: Mark, I realize one side of the aisle you hail from originally. I ask this in sincerity. Do you think he's a positive thing in any way, a positive force for this process?
