New Lean Forward Ad on MSNBC Attacks the Second Amendment: 'Make Change'

July 15th, 2014 12:25 PM

The latest MSNBC "lean forward" ad continues the network's habit of explicitly pushing for liberal legislation. This time, MSNBC host Rachel Maddow pleaded for new gun control laws, rallying, "You can't get people to give up any access to guns...Get over it. Get over it. Or don't get over it. Don't get over it." [See video below. MP3 audio here.]

She exhorted, "Don't believe it when they say there can be no changes to what we're used to, that there's no compromise that can be lived with." Maddow concluded, "We have a choice as to whether we accept that or whether we see a way to make change." This MSNBC commercial, which began airing on Monday, is just the latest example of a commercial that could be confused for a Democratic National Committee production.

In June, Chris Matthews toured Independence Hall in Philadelphia and insisted that the Liberty Bell rang "for equal pay and marriage equality." He lectured, "Those founding principles resonate as loudly today as when the liberty bell rang forth in 1776."

In May of 2013, Matthews insisted that the American Revolution is an example of how "liberalism always wins."

Last September, MSNBC ran a commercial appropriating Martin Luther King to promote liberal causes.

In April, 2013, a Melissa Harris-Perry spot allowed that successful Americans are only entitled to "a little more."

The Rachel Maddow Show commercial

7/14/14

RACHEL MADDOW: You can't get people to give up any access to guns. Guns are part of who we are, how we live. Get over it. Get over it. Or don't get over it. Don't get over it. Don't believe it when they say there can be no changes to what we're used to, that there's no compromise that can be lived with. We have a choice as to whether we accept that or whether we see a way to make change.
