While Trashing Newt, Liberal Joy Behar Vouches for 'Conservative Republican Joe Scarborough'

December 8th, 2011 5:57 PM

Liberal comedienne Joy Behar vouched for MSNBC-pleasing, GOP-bashing Joe Scarborough's credentials on Thursday, insisting he's a "conservative Republican." Behar did this as she slammed Newt Gingrich and wondered why more primary voters don't support Mitt Romney.

"Everybody knows [Gingrich is] a terrible person," Behar attacked. Citing her witness, she continued, "Joe Scarborough, who is a conservative Republican, says that Newt Gingrich is a bad person. I heard him say that." [See video below. MP3 audio here.]

Scarborough did, indeed, deride Gingrich as a "bad person" and a political loser. From Mediaite on December 2:

He is a bad person when it comes to demonizing opponents,” Scarborough continued. “When he puts on his political helmet he is a terrible person…Let me tell you something: the Republican establishment will never make peace with Newt Gingrich: they just won’t! They won’t: this is an important point. Because the Republicans I talk to say he cannot win the nomination at any cost: he will destroy the party. He will re-elect Barack Obama and we’ll be ruined. That’s going to happen. I mean Newt Gingrich would possibly win 100 electoral votes.”

On a side note, token "View" conservative Elisabeth Hasselbeck offered an endorsement for Romney's candidacy, Thursday: "...I firmly believe that if there's somebody out there who could make things right, I do believe it's Romney."

ELISABETH HASSELBECK: I tell you what, I love this ad, because it's true. And you know what? Originally, when I saw all the writings and pieces about it, saying it was going to be slamming Gingrich, saying, you know, he cheated on his wife, or went off with somebody else and got married.

WHOOPI GOLDBERG: Right.

HASSELBECK: It's actually a very positive ad and it's true. This is a man who's been consistent. His wife has been battling MS. Stood right by her side, continues to do so and I firmly believe that if there's somebody out there who could make things right, I do believe it's Romney. And I think a man who does all of that consistently-

JOY BEHAR: Obama has the same record.

GOLDBERG: Stuff we have- Stuff is not- I was going to say the same thing, you know, that Obama has the same record. He's been with the same women. He's been with the same church, which made everyone crazy at one time.

SHERRI SHEPHERD: got the same kids.

GOLDBERG: But, you know, he's got the same kids and really was born in the USA.

[ Applause]

BEHAR: But, Gingrich- Here's the thing, why does the Republican base hate Romney?

HASSELBECK: They don't.

BEHAR: He cannot get past 25 percent and Gingrich is now at 48 percent. Everybody knows he's a terrible person. I mean, I've heard Republicans-

SHERRI SHEPHERD: Well, apparently everybody doesn't.

HASSELBECK: This is temporary. I bet you this is temporary.

BEHAR: Yes, they do. They should. Joe Scarborough, who is a conservative Republican, says that Newt Gingrich is a bad person. I heard him say that.

HASSELBECK: That's temporary.

BEHAR: You know, wait a minute. His own sister. Gingrich's own sister is not going to vote for him. She's going to vote for Obama. I'm just saying. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.
