CNN's Toobin: This Is the First Day I Thought Trump May Not Finish Term

November 30th, 2018 2:05 PM

Thursday was the first day that Jeffrey Toobin claims he thought that President Donald Trump would not finish his term in office. Or at least it was the first time Toobin had that thought since September, when he announced that a Trump tweet was an impeachable offense.

What drove Toobin to repeat his fantasy on Anderson Cooper 360 on Thursday was Michael Cohen claiming he was lying when he testified to Congress about the time frame of Trump conducting perfectly legal business negotiations with Russians.

Here is Toobin pretending that he never ever had a Trump exit fantasy before yesterday:

JEFFREY TOOBIN: You know, today is the first day I actually thought Donald Trump might not finish his term in office.

ANDERSON COOPER: Really?

Yeah, even Anderson Cooper had trouble buying that. CNN is like the perpetual Donald Trump Is Doomed Channel. Nevertheless, Toobin persisted:

I mean, I think this thing is enormous. And the whole week, you think about what the position is of Donald Trump in the Trump camp about all these things. His position is, for six months, Michael Cohen never discussed with him that he was negotiating for Moscow Trump Tower. It's preposterous. I mean, it's just preposterous.

Liz Sheld of PJ Media put an amusing reality check on Toobin's and other liberal fantasies about a Trump exit from office due to Cohen claiming he is no longer lying even though he lied before about matters not impeachable:

Michael Cohen pleads guilty to BLAH BLAH BLAH

Yesterday Trump's former personal lawyer and fixer pled guilty to lying to Congress about how long the Trump operation pursued a deal for a Trump property in Moscow, RUSSIA! Is this illegal behavior that Cohen was lying about? NOPE. Is this a scandal and the end of Trump? NOPE. But the anti-Trump #resistance squad was clucking and strutting around yesterday like this was a major blow. It really wasn't. Cohen obviously pled down to lying from other crimes that Mueller's massive army of witch hunters found.

Cohen sent a letter to the Senate and House intelligence committees last year claiming that the Trump Organization’s pursuit of the Moscow deal ended in January 2016 and that Trump’s involvement was limited. He also claimed that he never agreed to travel to Russia to work on the deal and “never considered” asking Trump to do so. And he said he didn’t recall any response from Russian government officials to his inquiries about the proposal.

So, basically, the Trump operation continued to conduct business while he was running for president. Sleazy lawyer Cohen may have lied about it. Nothing about TREASONOUS COLLUSION WITH RUSSIA TO STEAL THE ELECTION FROM HILLARY CLINTON® The end.

But probably not the end of Toobin's continuing fantasies about Trump's exit from office.
