Sununu: 'Liberal Media Looking for the Tiniest Little Wart' on Romney 'They Can Blow Up Into a Giant Cancer'

September 18th, 2012 5:36 PM

Former New Hampshire governor John Sununu made a marvelous observation about the current hyperventilation going on in the press concerning Mitt Romney's just revealed remarks concerning the 47 percent of Americans that don't pay federal income taxes.

Appearing on Fox News's America Live, Sununu said, "You have a liberal media out there is looking for the tiniest little wart that they can blow up into a giant cancer" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

MEGYN KELLY, HOST: You know, when you listen to that videotape, you see a bit of a different Mitt Romney. He seems relaxed, he seems very comfortable with that message, controversial though it has proven to be. And some of the conservatives have come out today, Governor, saying, “Amen. We want to see that Governor Romney on the trail who embraces a principle that says, ‘Look, it’s sort of, it's the workers and the takers to some extent in this country,’ and he should go with that message.” Is that how he feels and is that what we’re likely to see?

JOHN SUNUNU, FORMER NEW HAMPSHIRE GOVERNOR: Well, I think what you’re seeing is a Governor Romney that understands in a campaign you have to deal with the environment as it exists, and you have a liberal media out there is looking for the tiniest little wart that they can blow up into a giant cancer. And I understand he’s got to be a little more guarded with what he says and the explicit language he uses. The big message is Obama has failed this country economically, it's got to be fixed, and Mitt Romney’s the guy to do it.

As usual, Sununu had the media pegged perfectly.

Their modus operandi has been and will continue to be to leap on anything Romney says to turn it into the latest election-ending catastrophe.

Just imagine what they'll be doing next month.
