Ed Schultz on Walker Win: 'Not Going to be an Easy Night for Many Broadcasters Who Are Liberal'

June 5th, 2012 11:33 PM

In response to the news that Republican Governor Scott Walker won his recall battle in Wisconsin Tuesday, MSNBC's Ed Schultz spoke a truth that should be a total embarrassment for the entire journalism industry.

"This is not going to be an easy night for many broadcasters who are liberal" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

ED SCHULTZ: This is not going to be an easy night for many broadcasters who are liberal. This is not going to be an easy night for this broadcaster. To say that I’m shocked and stunned is pretty much an understatement. But I also think that it is a real warning to Americans that money is now infiltrated into our political system like we have never seen before, and the ruling by Citizens United is now a real message to every American.

It is going to take an insurmountable amount of effort on the ground for the progressive movement and the Democrats to do what they need to do in 2012. And this is also a real message to local politics that this money will filter down, and Citizens United will affect federal and state elections over time.

Isn't it amazing that folks like Schultz weren't at all concerned about the money in politics in 2008 when Barack Obama spent more than any candidate in history?

And isn't it also telling that folks like Schultz are never concerned about all the money labor unions spend on Democrats in elections across the fruited plain?

But now that the playing field has been leveled, money in politics is destroying the country.

Maybe more importantly, given this man's total advocacy for the defeat of a duly elected governor since this recall effort first began, are the folks at MSNBC, NBC, and Comcast going to finally realize that this is not a journalist, and he has no business anchoring a program for a so-called news network?
