Newsweek Taking Heat for Obama Article Critical of McCain

On Sunday, my colleague Warner Todd Huston apprised readers of a truly disgraceful Newsweek article which continued to demonstrate just how in the tank media are for Democrat presidential candidate Barack Obama.

On Monday, the good folks at National Review Online were similarly outraged, and expressed concern about Newsweek's obvious lack of impartiality.

First up was Jim Geraghty who took issue with Newsweek's reference to the McCain campaign's "letter suggesting Obama was the candidate of Hamas" without explaining what precipitated it:

Really, if Newsweek is going to write [about this McCain campaign letter], you would think their readers might deserve to know what prompted McCain's campaign to suggest that Obama is the candidate of Hamas, i.e., top Hamas political adviser Ahmed Yousef saying the terrorist group supports Obama’s foreign-policy vision and hopes he wins:

“We don’t mind–actually we like Mr. Obama. We hope he will (win) the election and I do believe he is like John Kennedy, great man with great principle, and he has a vision to change America to make it in a position to lead the world community but not with domination and arrogance,” Yousef said in response to a question about the group’s willingness to meet with either of the Democratic presidential candidates.

I mean, seriously, one of his advisers, Rob Malley, was holding meetings with Hamas, and Obama's promised to hold unconditional face-to-face presidential summits with the guy who's funding and encouraging Hamas.

Great point. A few hours later, editor Rich Lowry wrote the following:

I was just asking [McCain campaign advisor] Steve Schmidt about it and he unloaded: "It's one of the top five most biased pieces of journalism ever written. It's a broad attack on the Republican party."..."For everyone who works in the profession of journalism, it should make them cringe—it's an embarrassment."

We're cringing, Steve, as this indeed is a precursor to what we can expect once the Democrat nomination is finalized.

If Americans thought media were in the tank for Obama before, they ain't seen nothin' yet!
