NewsBusters Podcast: Media Decry South African Refugees, But Want Leo Cudgel

May 14th, 2025 6:18 PM

I go solo in this episode of the NewsBusters Podcast to call out the liberal media’s hypocrisy in condemning the 59 refugees from South Africa (because they’re white), while at the same time get hyped about possibly using and abusing Pope Leo XIV as a cudgel against the political right in America. I also examine “comedian” John Oliver’s ignorance of the meaning of religious freedom and Stephen Colbert’s quip about Vice President Vance meeting a Catholic inquisition.

Since the election of Pope Leo XIV last week, the liberal media had repeatedly voiced their excitement to use him to browbeat President Trump and Vice President Vance on the issue of immigration. But with the Trump administration’s efforts to resettle South African refugees fleeing retaliatory discrimination this week, the liberal media finally found a group of immigrants they couldn’t stand.

ABC resembled MSNBC as both outlets raged at Trump helping white people. Both praised the Episcopal Church for their politically charged refusal to help the people resettle because they supposedly jumped the line.

Suddenly, the legal immigration system existed in the eyes of the liberal media!

Usual NewsBusters Podcast host Tim Graham talked about the media’s intentions to use Leo in his Tuesday column. “It's become obvious that our media deeply desire for Pope Leo to function as a staunch opponent of this president, when everyone knows a pope making any objection to ‘devout Catholic’ President Biden would have been considered rude and unnecessary,” he wrote.

Of course, I had to give you listeners a nightcap of room-temperature IQ takes from The View. This time they were upset about Trump trying to lower prescription drug prices. According to them, he couldn’t do that until he solved every other problem under the sun.

Enjoy!
