The View: Republicans Were Raised to Have Broken ‘Moral Compasses’

June 13th, 2023 1:59 PM

With former President Trump set to be arraigned Tuesday in the case of withholding classified documents, the liberal ladies of ABC’s The View celebrated. As part of that display, staunchly racist co-host Sunny Hostin lashed out at all Republicans and suggested, without evidence, that they have had broken “moral compasses” since they were five years old. Meanwhile, co-host Sara Haines falsely claimed Trump appointed a special counsel to investigate President Biden’s mishandling of classified documents.

“I don't trust this newly-found morality in the Republican Party,” Hostin proclaimed as she kicked off her hot take.

She then launched into an unhinged rant about “child psychiatry” and how “most of our children have their moral compasses by the time they're five years old.” The gist of the argument was to set up her assertion that Republicans were raised from a young age to be morally bankrupt like former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie and former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley:

So if you work for Donald Trump like a Chris Christie, and he gave you COVID, and you continued to stick up for him, and he -- he continued to stick up for, you know, some of the things that he said about white supremacy and things being good on both sides.

If you're Nikki Haley, who just last week was a supporter, and also – you know, only took down the confederate flag in her home state after people were murdered, and then just a little while after Trump sort of came into power said the confederate flag stood for history for people, and she flip-flops all the time.

Shockingly, Hostin managed not to make any more racist remarks about Haley’s skin color or heritage.

But she did whine about how it was “a sad day because -- not solely because of Donald Trump, but because of the hypocrisy and the lack of morality that I'm seeing.”

As for Haines, she was “actually happy” with Republicans like Christie and former Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson but upset with Haley and Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) and those who say “but Biden, but Biden” in terms of him taking classified documents.

Haines then spread some major misinformation about who appointed Special Counsel Robert Hur to investigate Biden’s documents scandal. “Remember, he’s is still under investigation by a Trump-appointed special counsel,” she falsely declared, arguing that the investigation of Trump was handled better. “So, anyone who thinks this is being politicized, they have taken careful steps to make sure that there is due process in all of this.”

Back in reality, it was Biden’s attorney general, Merrick Garland who appointed Hur. “I am here today to announce the appointment of Robert Hur as a Special Counsel, pursuant to Department of Justice regulations governing such matters,” Garland said in a statement on January 12, 2023.

SUNNY HOSTIN: But I will say, you know, I don't -- I don't trust this newly-found morality in the Republican Party. I'm sorry. I think when you look at the statistics, and you think about child psychiatry, most of our children have their moral compasses by the time they're five years old.

JOY BEHAR: I thought they don't want to hear history. Suddenly it’s good to hear history.

HOSTIN: No, they don't. And so, this is for me a sad day because -- not solely because of Donald Trump, but because of the hypocrisy and the lack of morality that I'm seeing.

WHOOPI GOLDBERG: Go ahead.

SARA HAINES: Do you want me to go or wait till we come back?

GOLDBERG: Go. Yes. Yeah.

HAINES: So, I'm actually happy he's saying it at all. I’m going to ‘em like I see ‘em in the plays. Chris Christie – The two former federal prosecutors, Chris Christie and Asa Hutchinson, came out right away and said this is serious, everyone should be paying attention.

It's low-hanging fruit to the Republicans. Which is why I don't understand why Nikki Haley and Tim Scott didn't come out. This is an indictment, a federal indictment that is very clear when you read it how serious these charges are.

And people keep saying “but Biden, But Biden.” Remember, he’s is still under investigation by a Trump-appointed special counsel. So, anyone who thinks this is being politicized, they have taken careful steps to make sure that there is due process in all of this.

So, I commend for Chris Christie for saying that this is ridiculous, and we should blame him on the person in charge, which is Donald Trump, not the DOJ.
