Behar Claims GOP Wants to Ban Holocaust from History Classes

ABC’s The View doesn’t have a stellar record when it comes to being respectful of the Holocaust. So, of course, it wasn’t a surprise when co-host Joy Behar abused International Holocaust Remembrance Day on Friday to suggest Republicans wanted to ban teaching educating kids about it in history classes and tried to tie it to opposition to Critical Race Theory.

Behar was filling in as moderator for Whoopi Goldberg (who’s made her own disgusting comments about the Holocaust which we’ll get to further down) and speaking with actor Josh Gad about how the Holocaust harmed his family.

Gad noted that it’s important to teach kids about the Holocaust “because without remembering the past, we can't prevent atrocities that we couldn't even imagine in the future.” And he warned that “63 percent of today's youth don't know that the Holocaust happened. They don't know what the holocaust is.”

“People need to understand also, that it wasn't -- during the holocaust, other people were rounded up and killed also,” Behar added to Gad. “So the Jews are signaling the fact that there is evil in the world, that it could happen to us, anybody.”

She then accused Republicans of trying to hide the Holocaust by banning it from schools:

So, there's a lot to digest about this horrific, horrific time … I mean, they don't want to teach history in this country. They don't want to teach CRT. They don't want to teach the Holocaust, but we're going to learn about it anyway.

The View has lashed out at Florida and Republican Governor Ron DeSantis in recent days because the state’s Board of Education rejected a high school Advanced Placement course because it was infused with CRT.

But on the issue of educating kids about the Holocaust, DeSantis’s deputy press secretary, Jeremy Redfern told Behar and Goldberg to visit Florida and see first-hand that it was a “required” topic in state schools. “Maybe they should hold a class for Whoopi, or Whoopi and @JoyVBehar can come to Florida, where teaching about the Holocaust is required,” he Tweeted.

Goldberg does need to get educated about the Holocaust. Almost a year ago, she emphatically insisted that “the Holocaust isn’t about race” but rather just conflict between “two white groups.” She called it “be[ing] truthful about it.”

“The minute you turn it into race, it goes down this alley. Let's talk about it for what it is. It's how people treat each other. It’s a problem. It doesn't matter if you are black or white because black, white, Jews, Italians, everybody eats each other,” she argued against the rest of the cast.

Last month, Goldberg doubled down on denying the motive behind Holocaust. “Remember who they were killing first. They were not killing racial; they were killing physical. They were killing people they considered to be mentally defective. And then they made this decision,” she told The Sunday Times of London.

She went on to argue that it was easy for Jews to survive the Holocaust because they had an easier time hiding in plain sight compared to black folks.

Joy Behar’s disrespect for the Holocaust to score political points was made possible because of lucrative sponsorships from Tylenol and Vicks. Their complete post is on NewsBusters.

JOSH GAD: What is important and is so urgent is 63 percent of today's youth don't know that the Holocaust happened. They don't know what the holocaust is. And I find that really scary because without remembering the past, we can't prevent atrocities that we couldn't even imagine in the future.

And it is more urgent than ever as I drive down the 405 freeway and see signs that are loaded with vitriol towards my people and my faith. It's become something that we just have to rip the Band-Aid off and discuss.

JOY BEHAR: Yeah. People need to understand also, that it wasn't -- during the holocaust, other people were rounded up and killed also. So the Jews are signaling the fact that there is evil in the world, that it could happen to us, anybody. It's not -- you know what I'm saying? They rounded up roamers. They rounded up homosexuals. They rounded up people with disabilities. The Jews were rounded up just because they were Jewish.

GAD: Correct.

BEHAR: So, there's a lot to digest about this horrific, horrific time.

And you're right. I mean, they don't want to teach history in this country. They don't want to teach CRT. They don't want to teach the Holocaust, but we're going to learn about it anyway.

We'll have more with Josh when we come back.
