Trump Forces CBS to Cover GOP Wins in the House, They Fact-Checked Him

November 5th, 2020 9:24 PM

In a press conference on Thursday, President Trump covered a vast range of topics dealing with the 2020 election, including the “great achievement” in the House of Representatives were Republican women won the day in large numbers. Of course, those victories had been largely ignored but Trump’s mention of them forced the CBS Evening News to finally acknowledge those victories. But instead of just reporting on who those women were, anchor Norah O’Donnell wanted to fact-check the President.

After blasting the incompetent pollsters whose predictions were grossly inaccurate and accusing them of voter suppression, Trump told the press about the GOP wins:

Yet, for the first time ever, we lost zero races in the House. I was talking to Kevin McCarthy today. He said he couldn't believe it, zero races, very unusual thing, zero. And, actually, won many new seats with, I think, many more on the way. This was also the year of the Republican woman. More Republican women were elected to Congress than ever before. That's a great achievement.

Now, given that the liberal media were largely ignoring the House results (with NBC openly decrying them) it was likely the first time CBS’s viewers had heard it from them.

But after CBS had interrupted Trump’s press conference to fact-check him, O’Donnell seemed to scoff at the idea of Republican victories. “He did talk about the wins that he has had, noting, of course, that they did well in Florida. He also said the Republicans have lost zero races in the House, is that true,” she asked chief congressional correspondent Nancy Cordes.

“Republican incumbents have done amazingly well,” said Cordes as she dealt the inconvenient truth. “They haven’t lost their races. He was right about that. He was also right about the fact this is the year of the GOP woman, because they're adding to their ranks in the House. They started out with about 10. They're probably going to double that.”

Acting as though she and the network had just done the President a favor, O’Donnell boasted: “We just want to be fair. We will point out what the President is correct on and what he has spoke incorrectly.”

But the fact that GOP’s wins in the House were driven by women flew in the face of a ridiculous accusation O’Donnell had leveled against House minority Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) after the 2018 midterms, suggesting the party was against women.

“I know that you've acknowledged that your party took a beating in some of these suburban swing districts. Suburban women particularly swung for the Democrats. Does the Republican Party have a problem with women,” she sneered that the time, on CBS This Morning.

And in an effort to twist her rhetorical knife, she wanted him to look at the pictures of the incoming freshman class of representatives. “You have for the Democrats there are 19 new women,” she touted. “For the Republicans, how many new women do you have?”

Since taking over the anchor seat for the CBS Evening News, O’Donnell had done numerous segments elevating the achievements of women (one-time even quipping about a “cougar” stalking a hiker). So, it’s very telling that she had yet to do a segment even acknowledging those GOP women.

Because of the press conference, there were no commercials during this half-hour. But click here to contact a sponsor you see supporting liberal media propaganda. CBS Evening News has also asked viewers to “text Norah” at this number: (202) 217-1107.

PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP: And the pollsters got it knowingly wrong. They got it knowingly wrong. We had polls that were so ridiculous, and everybody knew it at the time. There was no blue wave that they predicted. They thought there was going to be a big blue wave. That was false. It was done for suppression reasons. But instead, there was a big red wave.

We kept the Senate, despite having twice as many seats to defend as Democrats. And in a really much more competitive states, we've-- we did a fantastic job with the Senate. I think we're very proud of what's happened there, and many more seats to defend. They spent almost $200 million on Senate races in South Carolina and Kentucky alone, two races, and hundreds of millions of dollars overall, against us.
