Bozell: Even Leftist Media Know ‘Wheels Are Coming Off’ for Biden

September 27th, 2021 1:00 PM

Appearing on Fox Business Network’s Varney & Company Monday morning, Media Research Center President Brent Bozell pointed out that even President Biden’s left-wing supporters in the media know that “the wheels are coming off” his flailing administration, which is why the Democrat has actually received some critical press coverage lately. However, Bozell cautioned that liberal reporters would “back off” from holding Biden accountable as soon as they feared “their agenda” was in jeopardy.

“I put out an editorial this morning that the media is just beginning to turn on President Biden,” host Stuart Varney noted before playing a montage of usually Democrat-friendly media outlets reporting bad news for Biden. “Is this the beginnings of a turn, Brent?,” Varney wondered. Bozell warned that leftist media ideology would win out: “It depends how serious they see it. If they see it where the agenda, his agenda – their agenda – is going to be derailed, they’re gonna back off.”

He explained how “a lot of this pressure is coming from the most radical elements of the far left that are saying to him [Biden], ‘99% is not good enough, you have to do 100%.’” An as example, Bozell highlighted coverage of the border crisis: “All of the stories that we’ve seen about those horses and the Border Patrol agents, where are all the stories about the hundreds of thousands of people pouring in every month illegally? Those aren’t being covered. So they’re being very, very selective in what they’re covering.”

Even so, Bozell observed that the press just couldn’t ignore Biden’s blatant incompetence on multiple fronts: “You can’t – when all the wheels are coming off the truck, all 18 wheels are coming off, you’ve got to do some kind of reporting on there.”

Earlier in the discussion, Bozell hammered the left-wing co-hosts of ABC’s The View for refusing to ask Vice President Kamala Harris a single challenging question during an exclusive Friday interview:

And so she [Harris] shows up 10 minutes before the end of the show, nothing serious is asked of this woman. You knew nothing would be, Stuart, you knew nothing would be. You’ve got this administration collapsing, the wheels are coming off everywhere, you think you would get some tough questions. Nothing.

STUART VARNEY: Let’s bring in Brent Bozell, he follows the media. What’s your take on this mess at The View?

BRENT BOZELL: Well, you know, I think there’s a perception issue here that’s getting worse and worse and worse. And it’s not just The View, but it’s the left. There is this attitude that the left has that says, “Do as I say, not as I do.” And we’ve been seeing it in the era of COVID, over and over and over again. They’re breaking the rules that they set for everybody else. Whether it’s Nancy Pelosi going to the hairdresser or Fauci not wearing a mask during baseball games or Gavin Newsom going out to restaurants at night or Muriel Bowser of Washington, D.C. officiating large weddings less than 24 hours after a mandate goes into effect. And now this comes up. And what it smacks of is, “These are rules we just don’t have to follow, everybody else has to follow them.” And not even where the Vice President is concerned.

And so she shows up 10 minutes before the end of the show, nothing serious is asked of this woman. You knew nothing would be, Stuart, you knew nothing would be. You’ve got this administration collapsing, the wheels are coming off everywhere, you think you would get some tough questions. Nothing.

VARNEY: But, Brent, you follow the media. And I put out an editorial this morning that the media is just beginning to turn on President Biden. Hold on a second, Brent. Watch this for a second.

NEW DAY WEEKEND [CNN]: The Biden administration has faced criticism from all sides.

MICHAEL SMERCONISH [SMERCONISH, CNN]: He does not pose a perilous threat to the nation, but he is facing a political peril.

YAMICHE ALCINDOR [THE REIDOUT, MSNBC]: They view President Biden as treating Haitian migrants worse than former President Trump.

CAROL LEONNIG : The Biden administration has its hands full, for sure, with crises that are multiplying.

VARNEY: And in The New York Times on Sunday morning, the President was dismissed as just an old man. Is this the beginnings of a turn, Brent?

BOZELL: Depends. It depends how serious they see it. If they see it where the agenda, his agenda – their agenda – is going to be derailed, they’re gonna back off. Look, there’s also a lot of this pressure is coming from the most radical elements of the far left that are saying to him, “99% is not good enough, you have to do 100%.” You can’t – when all the wheels are coming off the truck, all 18 wheels are coming off, you’ve got to do some kind of reporting on there.

But, you know, what I’m seeing out there in no way raises, rises to the level of importance of what is going on in this country. You won’t see stories – virtually no stories are coming out. All of the stories that we’ve seen about those horses and the Border Patrol agents, where are all the stories about the hundreds of thousands of people pouring in every month illegally? Those aren’t being covered. So they’re being very, very selective in what they’re covering.

VARNEY: Keep on them, Brent, please. You’re doing God’s own work. [Laughter]

BOZELL: Thank you, Stuart.

VARNEY: Thanks very much, Brent Bozell.
