Brent Bozell: 'I Spit on' Colin Kaepernick 'for What He Has Been Saying'

Media Research Center President Brent Bozell slammed San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick for refusing to stand during the National Anthem. Appearing on Varney and Company, Thursday, an appalled Bozell denounced, “I think this man is a disgraceful ingrate. I spit on him for what he has been saying.”

The MRC president continued, “How dare this man have done that, given all the men and women who gave their lives for that flag? How dare he do that?” Pointing out the media double standard on the comments, Varney played a clip of Kaepernick saying of Hillary Clinton: “We have a presidential candidate who has deleted e-mails and done things illegally and is a presidential candidate That doesn't make sense to me. Because if that were any other person, you would be in prison.”

Bozell pointed out:

BRENT BOZELL:  It's amazing to me. We looked. There were 48 stories on Trump. There has only been one story about his attacks on Hillary Clinton, including an interview with George Stephanopoulos with Tim Kaine, her vice presidential nominee about Kaepernick and he never asked about this.

(For more on Stephanopoulos asking Kaine about Kaepernick, but not the attack on Clinton, go here.

Bozell and Varney also discussed media reaction to Trump’s speech. The MRC president predicted:

BOZELL: he has boxed Hillary in a corner on this one and the press knows it. Because this is now going to break down to this: Do you favor following the rule of law or do you not favor following the rule of law? And that's the distinction between the two. The press are going to hammer him because he knows they boxed him in a corner.

STUART VARNEY: Look who’s here. Brent Bozell, Media Research Center. What do you make of all this? Because it seems that the contempt just overflowed about Trump yesterday, especially the Mexico part.

BRENT BOZELL: Yeah, you know, very interesting. There were four stages yesterday. Number one, after he — after the visit, it was kind of acknowledgment that maybe it was successful. But they attacked the president of Mexico for daring to visit with him. The second thing was after a week of attacking him for flip-flopping, they are now attacking him for not flip-flopping. Where the substance of it was concerned, the New York Times called it hollow. In my entire life I have got to tell you, Stuart, in my entire life I have never heard a more comprehensive plan than this. Agree with it or not. And finally and predictably, all the networks, ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN they are all now fixated on the most important question: Did he or didn't he bring up to the president of Mexico, Mexico paying for the wall.

VARNEY: Yes. Exactly. They nitpicked because they have to pick on something  to make some kind of a silly controversy. And who would pay for the you'll, that's what they picked on. Amazing stuff, isn’t it?

BOZELL: Stuart, Stuart, if I can say one thing. He is boxed —  he has boxed Hillary in a corner on this one and the press knows it. Because this is now going to break down to this: Do you favor following the rule of law or do you not favor following the rule of law? And that's the distinction between the two. The press are going to hammer him because he knows they boxed him in a corner.

VARNEY: It’s fascinating stuff. Brent, would you please stay there? I’ve just got to deal with a couple other issues. I promise I’ll be back momentarily.

VARNEY: I want to go back to Brent Bozell. There is this story for Brent to deal with. San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick was in trouble for not standing for the National Anthem during a game. Got that. The media largely ignored his comments on Hillary Clinton. Roll that tape.

COLIN KAPERNICK: You have Hillary who called black teens or black kids super predators. We have a presidential candidate who has deleted e-mails and done things illegally and is a presidential candidate That doesn't make sense to me. Because if that were any other person, you
would be in prison. So, what is this country really standing for?

VARNEY: I didn't see much made of that part of his comments. It was all about Trump. That’s all about racism and Trump and terrible America. That’s all we ever heard about. What’s your thoughts on this?

BOZELL: Well, first off, I got to say quickly, I think this man is a disgraceful ingrate. I spit on him for what he has been saying. How dare this man have done that, given all the men and women who gave their lives for that flag? How dare he do that? Now, he's saying the typically stupid things about Trump. But at the same time he has also been saying this about Hillary Clinton. It’s amazing to me. We looked. There were 48 stories on Trump. There has only been one story about his attacks on Hillary Clinton, including an interview with George Stephanopoulos with Tim Kaine, her vice presidential nominee about Kaepernick and he never asked about this.

VARNEY: A few months ago, maybe a year or two ago, you and I used to talk and I always used to say, you know that left media bias, it can't go on forever. Well, it did. Brent Bozell, thank you very much.

BOZELL: Notice this very quickly: Six attacks by Trump on the press last night. The crowd roared every time.

VARNEY: Yes, indeed. Brent, thank you for joining us.
