Conway: If Trump Controlled National Guard On J6, He Would Have Ordered It To Stop Vote Count

George Conway MSNBC The Weekend 8-30-25 Ho-hum: another day, another President Trump = Hitler analogy on MSNBC. On Saturday, it was George Conway's turn. In an appearance on The Weekend, the co-founder of the disgraced Lincoln Project said that Trump's law enforcement moves in American cities is similar to what Hitler did in 1933:

"This is the authoritarian's playbook. I mean, in Germany in 1933, one of the first things that Hitler did was make, he made Herman Goering head of the police in the state of Prussia."

But Conway took things a step further, claiming:

"If Donald Trump had had control of the policing in the District of Columbia on January 6th, 2021, the way he seeks to have it today, yeah, he would have called the National Guard in, and he would have sent them straight up to Capitol Hill to stop the voting, the counting of the electoral votes."

The libs need to make up their collective minds. After January 6, Trump was condemned by the liberal media and politicians like Nancy Pelosi for not immediately ordering the National Guard to the Capitol.

Among those critics was . . . George Conway. In a Washington Post column on the first anniversary of January 6, Conway wrote that Trump "had the duty to intervene" and that his alleged failure to do so for hours constituted a "dereliction of duty" that "should suffice to make him guilty of a crime."

So, in 2022, Conway asserted that Trump did have the power to control the National Guard, and should have exercised it on January 6. But now he claims that if Trump "had control" of policing on January 6, he would have ordered the National Guard to the Capitol. Can't have it both ways, George.

Note: The show then played a clip of the omnipresent, if hardly omniscient, Gavin Newsom claiming that Trump plans to use the National Guard to call off the 2028 election and remain in power.

GEORGE CONWAY: I mean, this is really about authoritarianism, at the end of the day. The whole, all this about policing and taking control of police in the cities. I mean this is this is a, this is a, this is the authoritarian's playbook.

I mean, in Germany in 1933, one of the first things that Hitler did was make, he made Herman Goering head of the police in the state of Prussia, all right? They started taking over local police forces. They want control of the streets. They want to be able to stop protests at the end of the day. This is what this is headed for.

And you know, here in the city of Washington, what this is about is, it is about. If he, if Donald Trump had had control of the policing in the District of Columbia on January 6th, 2021, the way he seeks to have it today, yeah, he would have called the National Guard in, and he would have sent them straight up to Capitol Hill to stop the voting, the counting of the electoral votes.

EUGENE DANIELS: The MPD is who got there before the National Guard was there and helped stop January 6th.

LAURA BARRON-LOPEZ: When we're talking about the normalization, which you mentioned, Eugene, Governor Gavin Newsom issued this warning that I want to play about Trump's long-term plans with the National Guard.

GAVIN NEWSOM: He will send the National Guard, he will send them all across this country, and he will do so through Election Day. And he'll do so working in concert, as he has, with ICE and Border Patrol to do the same.

You have the largest private police force in the world. People actually think this guy's serious about having another election? You think he's joking about 2028? Wake up. You will lose your country.
