Lame Analogy: Meacham Says Obamacare Mess Like Declaring Ketchup A Vegetable

The Hindenburg? The Titanic? Hurricane Sandy on steroids? Any of those might have been a better analogy for the monumental mess that is Obamacare than the lame one Jon Meacham proposed on today's Morning Joe.

The presidential historian somehow sought to analogize the Obamacare fiasco to . . . the classification of ketchup as a vegetable. Huh?  View the video after the jump.

For the record, the Reagan administration never specifically classified ketchup as a vegetable, but did give local administrators more flexibility in classifying food items for purposes of meeting school lunch requirements.  Liberals and their allies in the media jumped on this to rip Reagan with the "ketchup as a vegetable" claim.

In any case, the ketchup kerfuffle is, to mix metaphors, sublimely small potatoes compared to the Obamacare fiasco.

Our readers can surely come up with better analogies than this: have at it!

JON MEACHAM: I have been trying to think of an analogy here. What's been like this? And the potential long-term impact. Stipulating that these are imprecise. This is in a way, the progressive equivalent of declaring ketchup a vegetable. The website problems have the potential for a generation to be used as an argument against government-run programs.
