Summer Camp for 'Gender-Variant' 'Princess Boys'

Ever wonder what a "Princess Boy" does in the summer? Apparently, if the Boy Scouts aren't gay enough for him, he can grab his tiara and head off to transgender camp, where he can share his pink nail polish and sequined tutus with other gender-bending boys.

According to Slate.com, such a camp actually exists where boys can "redefine gender," and photographer Lindsay Morris has followed it for years, playing paparazzi for the "gender non-conforming boys and their parents."  Morris has documented the camp under the pseudonymous title "Camp You Are You," which she explained was designed for "gender-variant boys" to "freely express their interpretations of femininity alongside their parents and siblings."

What do the boys do during this camp? Well, campers "apply, remove, and reapply makeup, and wardrobe changes are constant." As Morris' photos reveal, the boys spend their time at camp in frilly skirts and high-heels, sparkly V-neck dresses and long curly wigs. At the end of the four-day camp, they put on a "talent show," fashion runway style, in which the boys layer on the mascara and lipstick, then don a favorite dress to flaunt for an audience of applauding parents.

Morris explained that "some practice for the talent show all year, and others create their own gowns with their mothers or friends of the family."

The camp is supposedly for "parents who don't have a gender-confirming 3-year-old who wants to wear high heels and prefers to go down the pink aisle in K-Mart and not that nasty dark boys' aisle," Morris told Slate. The goal is to create an "environment that encourages free expression"--specifically by trying out a different gender.

"It is unknown if the kids at the camp will eventually identify as gay or transgender," Slate's David Rosenberg noted.

Morris was excited to continue documenting the boys and to raise money for others to join the camp. "I would really love to follow the kids into adulthood and see what kind of relationships they develop," she said, "I want to witness the evolution."

Lefties have touted gender-bending for children in the past, and NBC was all agog over the mom who pushed her son before the public eye as a "Princess Boy." Even though Morris didn't use the camp's real name, chances are that, as soon as the liberal media catch wind of it, they will be quick to shower the confused campers with even more adulation and praise.
