CNN Worries to Dem: Right Using Defund Police, Fictional CRT to Harm Your Party!

July 13th, 2021 11:15 AM

The DNC hacks at CNN were trying to protect Democrats from themselves again Tuesday morning. On CNN’s New Day, co-host John Berman complained to Rep. Hakeem Jeffries [D-NY] that the right was harming his party by “using” Critical Race Theory and “defund the police” “against” them. Never mind that both of these unpopular ideas were constructed by the far-left wing of Hakeem’s party and were defended by the media!

Berman began the interview playing a clip of Democratic strategist James Carville speaking to CNN last May. Carville warned his party was becoming too “woke” and alienating voters:

I'm tired of people being woke. After this pandemic and stuff people want to go about their lives, they want to enjoy their friends. They don't want to be nervous about how you address them or talk to them or anything.

Berman wondered if Carville was right: “It's not just James Carville. It's Eric Adams, who’s now the Democratic nominee for mayor here in New York City, who says Democrats can't be so idealistic that they’re not realistic. What do you think of that?” Even Jeffries agreed that his constituents cared more about “everyday” problems.

But Berman immediately pivoted to pin the blame on Republicans. He worried that the right was using far-left issues like critical race theory and defund the police “against” the left and that was harming Democrats. Like his show did last week, Berman even falsely claimed that the right had “created” a false narrative about CRT in schools:

But the question is, the way David Gregory put it on our show yesterday, and to a certain extent it may not be fair, but what he suggested is the way that some of this stuff is being used against Democrats could be harmful to democratic aspiration. So how concerned do you have to be about how certain things are being used against Democrats, whether it was defund the police which was last year, and most Democrats said they don't want to defund the police anyway. or the argument over critical race theory even if it is something that is frankly being created by the right?

CNN journalists thinks it's their job to protect Democrats and push their lies. They’ve made a concerted effort in recent weeks to mock Americans concerned about toxic teaching in schools as conspiracy theorists and laughably claim that it was Republicans who wanted to defund the police.

JOHN BERMAN: Some democratic strategists are worried the gains they made in 2020 could be erased. Here's democratic legislator James Carville.

[clip] JAMES CARVILLE:  I'm tired of people being woke. After this pandemic and stuff people want to go about their lives, they want to enjoy their friends. They don't want to be nervous about how you address them or talk to them or anything. And, you know, that's just where people are.

BERMAN: Joining us now is Congressman Hakeem Jeffries, Democrat from New York and the chair of the house democratic caucus. Congressman, thanks so much for being with us today. It's not just James Carville. It's Eric Adams who’s now the democratic nominee for mayor here in New York City. who says Democrats can't be so idealistic that they’re not realistic. What do you think of that?

REP. HAKEEM JEFFRIES: I think the most important thing President Biden is doing, I think Eric as mayor will do this, is to solve problems for everyday Americans. I agree the people that I represent in predominantly black neighborhoods, Bedford/Stuyvesant, they don't talk like that, they don’t use language like ‘woke.’ They're concerned about housing displacement, gentrification, educating their children, quality of life issues, a rise in gun violence. I think what is going to continue to be important and we're seeing this leadership from Joe Biden, is for us to solve problems in these areas and if we do so we'll continue to be successful politically.

BERMAN: Now we’ll talk in a second about one of the problems that’s going to be solved today of people starting to receive money from the child tax credit.
