Enamored 'View' Hosts 'Giddy' Over Obama Trashing Trump: 'True Leader' Who's 'Honest'

May 18th, 2020 2:21 PM

The hosts of The View couldn’t get enough of former President Obama getting political and taking cheap shots at President Trump again; this time, in his virtual commencement speeches to graduating seniors this past weekend. While the liberal co-hosts fawned over how much they missed the “brilliant” and “honest” Obama, Meghan McCain put a cork in their enthusiasm by pointing out how divisive he was. However, Whoopi Goldberg claimed the only reason why Obama was criticized was because of people’s racism.

After playing some clips of Obama making snide remarks which were taken to be directed at Trump, Joy Behar was grinning from ear to ear. She admitted how happy she was to see Obama take on Trump:

“I'm giddy about this. I'm giddy. I mean, I'm really looking forward to watching the -- the law professor -- brilliant law professor take on the quasi-literate reality show host. This is going to be good. [chuckles] We need Obama and a lot of people to start to talk and speak out!” she gushed.

Behar added that Trump had Obama “in his head” because he was ‘insecure” that a “black man would replace him”:

I think that Trump who has a history of fear that a black person would replace him in some way, you know, only insecure people think like that. If you are a secure person, you don't believe that anybody's going to replace you because you are competent yourself. These are insecure people, starting with President Trump.

Co-host Sunny Hostin then shared why she and her family were “nostalgic” for Obama because he was an “honest” “true leader":

Yeah. I mean, it took me back to a time where we had someone that was compassionate and empathetic and reassuring, and funny, intelligent, honest, curious, and, you know, I had, you know, a couple of my son's graduating senior friends come in their cars with their masks and gloves and watch the speech on a big screen outside, and all of them were just so thrilled. They said it was even better than having a graduation because they got to hear from really the only president they've ever known, and they were making remarks like, too bad we can't vote for him another time….

But Meghan McCain pointed out to her enamored co-hosts that Obama wasn’t a “perfect president,” much less the “saint” the left makes him out to be. She argued his own divisive administration led to President Trump’s election, even claiming that he would win again in 2020 as it now stands:

"[O]bviously everyone on the left has basically appointed President Obama as nothing short of a saint...the culture war that I believe is real and is raging in this country I believe was ushered in with his administration and exacerbated in the Trump administration. If the election were held today, I do think Trump would be re-elected," she stated. McCain added, "We have to start talking about the faults on both sides because he was not a perfect president, and I don't think perfect presidents would have ushered in the era of Trump."

Whoopi Goldberg couldn’t let that slide. She denied that the left gives Obama undue praise. She also claimed that it was perfectly fine for people to question whether Trump cared about the country, and this “culture war” was clearly because of racists:

This man has been battered by this particular guy in the White House for almost five years. He's been called incompetent, not an American citizen. So the fact that Obama has said something is great, and I don't think people are holding up Obama....This feels different. This feels like there are very few people out there caring, and this culture war, I'm sure it's out there because people were kind of shocked I guess when it turned out that Obama was black because I can't see any other reason other than that to spark a culture war.

The hosts weren’t done promoting the Obamas’ political agenda. Later in the show, they spoke with actress Rita Wilson, wife of Tom Hanks, to tout the celebrity couple’s work with Michelle Obama to get people to vote in 2020. Wilson touted how their organization is promoting mail-in ballots, which even the New York Times admitted in 2012, leads to voter fraud.

WHOOPI GOLDBERG: Well, you know who couldn't just let that go. He had to shoot back that Obama was an incompetent president, and so, Joy, you think that the gloves are off now?

JOY BEHAR: I'm giddy about this. I'm giddy. I mean, I'm really looking forward to watching the -- the law professor -- brilliant law professor take on the quasi-literate reality show host. This is going to be good. [chuckles] We need Obama and a lot of people to start to talk and speak out. You know, I want to quote Edmund Burke, “the only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.” And people need to start talking. I see that there's a little bit of a crack where Romney is now opening his mouth. We need more Republicans to speak out against this debacle that's going on.

You know Charles Blow in The New York Times talks about how Trump has Obama in his head. He can't get him out of his head, you know, it reminds me of when the Charlottesville people were protesting and walking. Remember that? They were saying, Jews will not replace me. Jews will not replace us, and I think that Trump who has a history of fear that a black person would replace him in some way, you know, only insecure people think like that. If you are a secure person, you don't believe that anybody's going to replace you because you are competent yourself. These are insecure people, starting with President Trump. That's one of the first times I have ever said President Trump by the way. Just saying. That’s the issue.

WHOOPI GOLDBERG: Okay. Sunny? Right. Sunny, it made you nostalgic about what's missing in the current White House?

SUNNY HOSTIN: Yeah. They said it was even better than having a graduation because they got to hear from really the only president they've ever known, and they were making remarks like, too bad we can't vote for him another time. That's what a president is supposed to sound like, and these are, you know, people that will be first-time voters, and I think it was really spectacular that he was giving them this charge that they will change the world, and they are going through unprecedented times, and I think it was a very good time to hear from someone that is a true leader, someone that's a true political leader showing them how it's done.

WHOOPI: And some people are saying that this wasn't the time or place to get political. What did you think, Meghan?

MEGHAN MCCAIN: He can get political any time he wants. He's the former president. I don't have much to say about this. Obviously everyone on the left has basically appointed president Obama as nothing short of a saint, and obviously I feel different as most Republicans and conservatives do. I will say I -- the culture war that I believe is real and is raging in this country I believe was ushered in with his administration and exacerbated in the Trump administration. If the election were held today, I do think Trump would be re-elected. And I think at a certain point, we have to start talking to each other in the middle, and we have to start talking about the faults on both sides because he was not a perfect president, and I don't think perfect presidents would have ushered in the era of Trump.

WHOOPI GOLDBERG: Okay, and so -- my belief is that no president is perfect. No one is perfect, but you don't have to exacerbate one's imperfections, and the other thing is, you know, listen. This man has been battered by this particular guy in the White House for almost five years. He's been called incompetent, not an American citizen. So the fact that Obama has said something is great, and I don't think people are holding up Obama. I think they miss him. They miss Clinton, you know, you have heard people say they miss Bush. They miss that thing that you -- whether you agreed with somebody or not, you never questioned how they felt about the country. You didn't question it. You didn't agree with them, but this is different. This feels different. This feels like there are very few people out there caring, and this culture war, I'm sure it's out there because people were kind of shocked I guess when it turned out that Obama was black because I can't see any other reason other than that to spark a culture war when he came in and took care of the business at hand that needed to be done.
