On Monday, a former business partner of Hunter Biden named Devon Archer has been sentenced to over a year in prison for his involvement in a scheme to defraud a Native American tribe of over $60 billion in bonds. Not surprisingly, all three evening newscasts completely ignored this news of the President’s son’s business partner going to federal prison.
While ignoring this report, ABC’s World News Tonight, CBS Evening News & NBC Nightly News did all have time to hyperventilate over global warming, while CBS also had additional time to report on a mail truck that crashed off a bridge and fell into a river.
According to a report in the New York Post, Archer was sentenced to one year and one day in federal prison by Manhattan Judge Ronnie Abrams. “There’s no dispute about the harm caused to real people,” Judge Abrams said. In addition to jail time, Archer will have to pay back over $15 million in forfeiture as well as over $43 million in economic restitution.
Prosecutors charged Archer and his co-defendants with buying $60 million worth of bonds from the Oglala Sioux Native American tribe, which is one of the poorest tribes in the United States. Instead of using them for an annuity, Archer used the bonds to “build a financial services mega-company.”
Archer did not financially benefit from the scheme, according to Adams.
While neither Biden had any role in the scheme, Archer does have a history of illegal activity. In 2018, Archer was convicted of conspiracy to commit securities fraud.
This is not the first time the networks looked the other way when one of Hunter Biden's friends became engulfed in legal problems. Back in January, all three evening newscasts ignored Hunted Biden's close friend Karim Massimov being charged with treason in Kazakhstan during violent protests caused by a spike in gas prices in the region.
This likely wouldn't be the response if the story were about a business partner of one of former President Trump's adult children.
