Night 2 of the Republican Midterm Convention was keynote by Vice President JD Vance. One particular unscripted moment from his speech triggered unhinged reactions from some within the Elite Media’s White House press corps.
Watch the moment Vance dealt with a heckler carrying a Mexican flag:
.@VP @JDVance: So what- what the people at home missed is that we just had a protester interrupting us and waving the Mexican flag. Well...well, my friend, if you love Mexico so much, get your ass over there, I'll buy you the plane ticket. #GOPMidtermConvention pic.twitter.com/iwbSJYJMCl

ABC’s Chief White House Correspondent Mary Bruce, in peak Mary Bruce form, saw that moment and decided to literally perform Republicans Pounce:
WATCH: ABC's Mary Bruce literally did "Republicans Pounce" when referring to JD Vance's handling of the Mexican flag-bearing heckler

JUJU CHANG: And Mary, there was a moment during his speech, which was nowhere near as long as President Trump's speech the night before, but a protester tried to disrupt the speech, waving a Mexican flag. What can you tell us about that moment?
MARY BRUCE: Yeah, well, the Vice President was quick to sort of turn that protest into a moment that he could pounce on politically to his advantage. A protester who we saw just off the Vice President's stage, waving a Mexican flag, and the Vice President sort of pounced on that moment as security took the protester out of the arena and saying, you know, he should be waving the American flag. And if he wants to go back to Mexico, that he would gladly help him get a ticket, which, as you can imagine in this crowd, was met with a huge applause and a big roar of support.
Not once, but twice! Between her Trump-deranged dispatches on World News Tonight and freestyle hits like these, Bruce is seriously on a generational run. One of one. “Republicans Pounce” is a meme unto itself, a phrase that urges caution against taking those who utter it seriously. But there was another level of Vance Derangement on display tonight.
Consider NBC Chief White House Correspondent Garrett Haake, who indulged his inner conspiracy theorist in assessing Vance’s moment:

As the Elite Media like to say: Haake claims, without evidence, that Vance somehow staged his clowning of a heckler. Conspiracy theories are quickly condemned on TV news when they emerge from the right. Not in this case, though. How Bruce and Nobles comported themselves in covering the heckling incident says a great deal about the state of media. Vance Derangement Syndrome is absolutely real.
