All this past month leftist journalists have been wailing about President Donald Trump’s attacks on democracy.
The likes of MSNBC’s Jonathan Capehart and Ali Velshi feared that America was “sliding into autocracy” and questioned if the country could withstand the “internal demolition” carried out by Trump. Former ABC News correspondent Terry Moran claimed Trump was the “man that we were warned about by the Founders.”
Trump’s crackdown on crime in Washington D.C. was spun as an unnecessary “occupation,” and the type of tyrannical action that a North Korean dictator would take.
Sadly, the sickening attack on a Minneapolis church brought out – once again – the media’s hatred of gun rights and religion. MSNBC contributor Michael Steele sneered “I’m so beyond” the “nonsense” of “thoughts and prayers.” Former MSNBC and ESPN anchor Keith Olbermann blamed “Republicans, MAGA” and “Trumpists” for the shooting and urged that they must “pay for their crimes.” Comedian and one-time ABC’s The View co-host Rosie O’Donnell falsely claimed the shooter was a “Republican, MAGA person.”
The following are just some of the most obnoxious outbursts by leftist journalists and celebrities from the past month:
[LANGUAGE WARNING]
Can “America’s Democracy” Withstand “Internal Demolition” Carried Out by Trump?
“America’s democracy has withstood civil war, depressions, attacks by foreign enemies on its soil, but it has never faced an assault on this scale: An internal demolition carried out not by outsiders or even by well-armed rebels, but by the holder of the highest office in the land.”
— Host Ali Velshi on MSNBC’s Velshi, August 24.
Trump Is the “Man That We We Warned About By the Founders”
“Trump is the most dominant figure of our age around the world. Don’t underestimate him. He is a world historical figure and he is the man that we were warned about by the Founders. That democracies fall when a man who can captivate the populace wants to exercise the power that’s there in the government, and that is what we’re watching.”
— Former ABC News correspondent Terry Moran on A Conversation With podcast, August 29.
“Sliding Into Autocracy” Under Trump
“I think, among people, and certainly in our conversations, it’s, you know, we are sliding into autocracy. But are we sliding, or are we already there? To me, it seems like we’re already there.”
— Host Jonathan Capehart on MSNBC’s The Weekend, August 10.
Is America “Losing the Fight to Protect Its Founding Democratic Values” from Trump?
“Trump’s critics are increasingly in the firing line, as the administration seeks to bend the U.S. legal system to its will. There’s also a grinding assault on America’s cultural institutions...It’s a weight of evidence that has many asking, is the world’s leading democracy losing the fight to protect its founding democratic values? My next guest says that the answer is clear and that the United States has already slipped into fascism.”
— Substitute host Bianna Golodryga introducing guest on CNN International’s Amanpour & Co., August 29.
Jim Acosta: Thanks to Trump, Washington D.C. Is “Living Under an Occupation”
“I take my hat off, kudos to the people of Washington, D.C. for showing not just bravery and courage but patience and restraint in the face of what is, and I’m just gonna go out here and say it, an occupation. People of Washington, D.C. are living under an occupation.”
— Former CNN host Jim Acosta on The Jim Acosta Show podcast, August 19.
Trump Cracked Down on Crime, Just Like That Other Dictator in North Korea
“The people who perceive cities as fundamentally crime-ridden at all times in all decades think this [Trump crackdown on D.C. crime] is a good thing. So here’s an example. The New York Post: ‘O Safe Can You D.C. No Murders in the Capital Since the Trump takeover.’...There’s probably no murders in North Korea, too.”
— Host Audie Cornish on CNN This Morning, August 26.
Trump Crime Crackdown Is “Diversion” From Jeffrey Epstein Investigation
“The biggest crime spree in the history of Washington D.C. was on January 6 — for Donald Trump, and Donald Trump did not send the National Guard that day. But now Donald Trump wants us all to be talking about his decision to send just enough National Guard troops onto the streets of Washington, D.C, so that news cameras can get pictures of them. The same pictures we’ve seen from Los Angeles, where the troops had absolutely nothing to do and are there for no reason at all other than as a diversion, a diversion from Donald Trump’s relationship with Jeffrey Epstein.”
— Host Lawrence O’Donnell on MSNBC’s The Last Word, August 11.
The Real Crime In D.C. is Nonexistent Climate Change Policy
“When I go to D.C. I’m not afraid of losing my wallet, so much as I’m afraid of losing my vote. I’m not afraid of losing my wallet, so much as I’m afraid that my children’s freedom to breathe will be stolen in a world where climate change policy is nonexistent.”
— The.Ink publisher Anand Giridharadas on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, August 12.
“So Beyond” the “Nonsense” of “Thoughts and Prayers”
“I agree with the mayor [Jacob Frey]. The thoughts and prayers. I’m so beyond, so beyond that. That nonsense, the lie of that. Because what we have are people who continue to stand in the way of actually doing something to stop the violence against their own kids.”
— Host Michael Steele on Minneapolis church shooting on MSNBC’s The Weeknight, August 27.
“Forget about thoughts and prayers. These kids were literally praying when they were murdered through a church window.”
— Host Dana Bash discussing Minneapolis church shooting on CNN’s Inside Politics, August 27.
“Republicans, MAGA, Trumpists” Must “Pay for Their Crimes” of Causing Shootings
“You want the people who cause these nightmares – gun makers, and the lawmakers who prostitute themselves for gun money, Republicans, MAGA, Trumpists – you want them to pay for their crimes? You want people to recognize that standing ghost-like behind that subhuman creature shooting into a school chapel service yesterday – the figure in the background is Trump? Like in one of his own cheesy memes with gentrified white Jesus standing behind him? You want any of that to happen? You start with one thing, you have to say it! You have to come out and say the truth and you go from there.”
— Former MSNBC host Keith Olbermann on his podcast Countdown with Keith Olbermann, August 28.
Trump “Turning the Clock Back to Segregation,” Is “Constantly” “Belittling Black America”
“Trump is trying to ‘whitewash’ history….He has a long narrative you can follow in his life of seeming to want to be hard on black Americans….The assault he’s doing on the Smithsonian is just because he thinks turning the clock back to segregation of some kind, is where America should be….Why constantly be, you know, mocking, belittling Black America?...It’s because, you know, he wants to empower this sense of the white fantasy narrative of history….The danger becomes you become like Russia, you become like China, where you don’t want true history, you want to kind of create a narrative that’s based on your base, your 30 percent MAGA base.”
— Historian Douglas Brinkley on Katie Couric’s Substack podcast, August 21.
“Trump Is the Physical Embodiment of All of America’s Sins”
“People try to say God put him [Donald Trump] in the White House. I don’t believe God is that cruel. But in a way, I’m thinking the way you could justify saying that: Donald Trump is the physical embodiment of all of America’s sins….He’s a terrible businessman and a failure who gets to fake success because he’s white, so banks keep lending him money even when he’s failing….Everything about him is a lie. He’s not a Christian, but Christians love him. But he embodies the greed, the shamelessness, the lasciviousness of capitalism.”
— Former MSNBC host Joy Reid on The Left Hook with Wajahat Ali podcast, August 15.
Ranting About Trump’s “Magical Doctors” and His “Alleged Assassination”
“He’s showing clear signs that he isn’t well. His face looks like it’s coming apart. He’s got all these bruises all over his hands, which we don’t know what that’s from. They won’t explain it. He’s got these magical doctors who claimed that he was shot in the ear, but his ear, I guess, grew back. He had a Dukal bandage on one minute, no bandage the next. We can’t get a medical record from this alleged assassination. He was supposedly shot. We have nothing!”
— Former MSNBC host Joy Reid on MeidasTouch’s Katie Phang News, September 2.
Trump “Does Not Have the Intellect” to Match Up with World Leaders
“Donald Trump cannot perform on the world stage because he simply does not have the intellect to match up with these world leaders. He’s not Barack Obama, he’s not Hillary Clinton. He’s not even George Bush when it comes to being able to maneuver in these environments. And so what you saw was Vladimir Putin come and get what he wanted. I mean, the winner of this is Vladimir Putin. I don’t know why we’re trying to hide the ball.”
— CNN political commentator Bakari Sellers on CNN’s State of the Union, August 17.
Sucking Up to Sanders
“What the Gallup poll found was that you are one of the most widely admired Americans. And I believe you’re only second to the pope….I watched you tonight, I have watched you for a very, very long time. You’re obviously still full of vigor and intensity for the things that you’re passionate about and have been for decades. Is there another presidential run in you?”
— Host Dana Bash to Sen. Bernie Sanders on CNN State of the Union on Sunday, August 10.
How Will Hollywood Handle Trump’s Second Term of “Fascism?”
“As Fascism Takes Hold in the U.S., How Will — and Should — the TV Landscape Depict Our Real-Life Horrors?”
— Headline to August 19 Variety article by editor Michael Schneider.
Colbert Commiserates with Fellow Democrat About Trump’s “Brutality and Cruelty”
“I love our country, but it breaks my heart to see that the overt policy of the administration is brutality and cruelty. That is the purpose.”
— Host Stephen Colbert to California Sen. Alex Padilla on CBS’s The Late Show, August 8.
Rosie O’Donnell: Minneapolis Church Shooter Was a “Republican, MAGA Person”
“This was a church inside a Catholic school and whaddaya know [shooter] was a white guy, Republican, MAGA person. Whaddaya know? White supremacist.”
— Comedian/former ABC’s The View co-host Rosie O’Donnell on her TikTok feed, August 28.
Rosie O’Donnell Lip-Synchs Along to Song: “Fuck Trump, Fuck ICE, Free Palestine!”
“Fuck Trump, fuck ICE, free Palestine! I’ma say that shit again, free Palestine! It’s American dollars funding genocide! But the people waking up, we got open eyes!”
— Comedian/former ABC’s The View co-host Rosie O’Donnell lip-synching to song by artist Cain Culto on her TikTok feed, August 13.
Crackdown on D.C Crime is Preview of Trump’s Coup?
“Let me just describe some of the steps….First, create a mass police force and get people used to looking at that. Normalize snatching people off the street, get them used to that. Normalize seeing the National Guard and the military on the street. Then start talking about crime in the capital….where elections are decided….So, when an election dispute might come up….and I’m going to pretend for the rest of the duration that the Democrats do have a chance of winning and they might win the next election. I just don’t think they’re ever going to take power, because this is what’s going to happen because I think this coup was going to go off a lot smoother than the last one.”
— Host Bill Maher on HBO’s Real Time, August 22.
