IMPEACHMENT FRENZY ENDS IN A FIZZLE: ‘Sad’ Moment for Democracy, ‘Outlaw’ President Survives

For over a month the liberal media have been in an impeachment frenzy, as they insisted the only way to save the Republic was to remove the “outlaw” President as they compared him to dictators like Joseph Stalin and likened his aides to “Hitler appeasers.” Then it ended in a fizzle.

As it became apparent that Trump would be acquitted they whined it was a “cover-up” and called it a “scary” and “sad moment” for democracy, reminiscent of “Jim Crow.”

Lefty hosts and correspondents also asserted the only reason Donald Trump is still hanging onto his job is because his supporters are a bunch of “low-information” “boomer rubes” who believe in “fairy tales” like the Bible.

Celebrities threw tantrums too. Actor Robert DeNiro called Trump a “low-life,” film director Ron Howard labeled him a “morally bankrupt ego maniac” and singer Linda Ronstadt asserted that Trump was “like Hitler, and Mexicans are going to be the new Jews.”

The following are just a few of the most obnoxious outbursts from the liberal media’s coverage of the impeachment process, over the last month:

Impeachment Acquittal Like “Jim Crow,” “Sad Moment” for Democracy

“As somebody who grew up with a father who grew up in the Jim Crow south and in Jim Crow Detroit, a lot of what this has looked like from the Republican side, the kind of imagining and the farcical nature of this, the lack of good faith argument sounds very familiar to me and it’s – it’s actually quite scary. I think we’re at a very scary moment.”
New York Times editorial board member Mara Gay on MSNBC’s live coverage of Senate impeachment trial, January 30.

“What’s on trial is not just Donald Trump right now. What’s on trial is the rule of law. What’s on trial is our democracy. What's on trial is the credibility we have as one of the world’s oldest democracies, and people around the world are watching us going, this is what you want for the rest of the world? I mean what a sad, sad moment after, you know, 300-plus years of democracy.”
New York Times editorial board member Mara Gay on MSNBC’s late night into early morning coverage of Senate impeachment trial, January 31.

Bernstein Bellows: “It’s a Cover-Up!”

“It’s [impeachment acquittal]  a cover-up. That’s what the Senate has now done. They have covered up what the President of the United States has done in his grievous action when they had the ability to find out more....This is a cover-up, plain and simple....We have seen now a really shameful episode in our history that’s going to read down for many, many years, particularly because of the Dershowitz catechism for the cult of Trump.”
— CNN political analyst and former Washington Post reporter Carl Bernstein on CNN’s Anderson Cooper 360, January 30.

“Terrified” That Donald Trump Will “Shut Down” Voting in California

“Imagine Donald Trump deciding sometime in June, ‘Well, I heard this conspiracy theory that a lot of illegal immigrants voted in California, so I’ve decided that during the presidential election California has to undergo extreme vetting because we can’t trust their votes. We’re going to shut down voting in a state.’ This is literally the kind of thing he will do now. We’re not talking hypotheticals anymore...I don’t understand how anyone cannot be terrified, not just angry, but literally terrified about what the future’s gonna bring.”
— Politics.com editor and MSNBC contributor Jason Johnson during MSNBC’s live coverage of the Senate impeachment trial, January 30.

“Outlaw” President

Host Jake Tapper: “If ultimately what happens is that President Trump is not removed from office from the Senate trial....what does that mean for future U.S. Presidents and their handling of foreign policy and their asking other countries to look into whatever they want?”
Presidential historian Douglas Brinkley: “It means that the country has a President who operates as an outlaw.....Acting in a demagogic way and acting as in a dictatorial way trying to smash the foreign policy establishment, diss our intelligence gatherers, operating in a whole new way of an imperial presidency that we couldn’t have imagined.”
— CNN’s Impeachment Trial of Donald J. Trump, January 16.

Trump Just Bulldozed the Constitution

“I think the thing that’s uncomfortable here is the idea that if you can – if you basically can harness enough support in the public you can bulldoze – you can essentially bulldoze the Constitution.”
— NBC’s Meet the Press host Chuck Todd on NBC News’s live impeachment coverage, January 31.

Fearing “Invincible” “Monarch” “Tyrant” Trump

“President Trump is functionally a monarch at this point. If the king does it, it’s okay. That, that’s what we’re seeing unfold in Washington right now....All Americans – whether you support the President or you don’t – should  pause significantly and think about the long term implications of having a president who is above the law.”
— Former Newsweek editor and presidential historian Jon Meacham on NBC News’s live impeachment coverage, January 31.

“Let’s look at what Watergate was because it was about a criminal president who acted as a tyrant. And what we have here now is the Senate of the United States through the Republican leadership and membership has now joined hands with a tyrant.”
— CNN political analyst and former Washington Post reporter Carl Bernstein on CNN Newsroom, January 31.

“At some point if attempts to hold Donald Trump accountable in the Mueller investigation and this do not succeed, are you worried about what an invincible Donald Trump might do?”
— Host Ali Velshi to Democratic Representative Raja Krishnamoorthi on MSNBC’s live impeachment coverage, January 31.

GOP Just Affirmed “Most Mediocre White Man” In History

“This man [Donald Trump] who stands up every morning to excrete the feces of his moral depravity into a nation he’s turned into his physic commode....I don’t want to hear anybody else come up to me complaining about affirmative action or black people or brown people getting a job when you’ve got the most mediocre white man in the history of America running this nation and the complicity of the Senate.”
— MSNBC fill-in host Michael Eric Dyson on HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher, January 31.

Trump’s Treatment of Media Is Stalinesque

MSNBC Hardball host Chris Matthews: “And this is why the President said a couple years ago to Lesley Stahl of 60 Minutes, ‘I call them fake news so when they catch me, it won’t count.’ Rick?”
Former Time magazine editor Rick Stengel: “He’s trying to discredit the media because the media can call him out and he wants to be able to say, ‘Well, they don’t have any credibility. I have more credibility.’ That’s what monarchs do, that’s what kings do. That’s what Stalin did.”
— MSNBC’s live coverage of Senate impeachment trial, January 22.

“Millions” of Trump Voters Might Get Violent, If He Loses

“Do you think he [Donald Trump] will be a gracious loser? Do you think that he will accept defeat and reach out the hand of friendship to whoever is going to replace him? I don’t think so. Can I see Donald Trump at that point making the argument that the election was stolen? A possibility. And I think there are unfortunately millions of people in this country today who would respond to that in a fashion that, you know, I’m not even sure I really want to consider all the consequences of where that might go. Could it lead to violence? Yes, it could.”
— Former ABC’s Nightline anchor Ted Koppel on PBS’ Amanpour and Company, January 28.

Mocking Bible Believing, “Low-Information” Trump Supporters as “Boomer Rubes”

Republican strategist Rick Wilson: “Donald Trump couldn’t find Ukraine on a map if you had the letter ‘U’ and the picture of an actual physical crane next to it. He knows that this is a, you know, an administration defined by ignorance of the world, and so that’s part of him playing to their base and playing to their audience, you know, the credulous boomer rube demo that backs Donald Trump -- that wants to think that ‘Donald Trump’s the smart one, and y’all – y’all elitists are dumb!’”
CNN contributor Wajahat Ali: “You elitists with your geography and your maps and your spelling!”
Wilson: “Your math and your reading!”
Ali: “Yeah, your reading, you know, your geography, knowing other countries, sipping your latte!”
Wilson: “All those lines on the map!
Ali: “Only them elitists know where Ukraine is! Sorry, I apologize.”
Host Don Lemon: “Oh, my God!...hold on. That was good, sorry. Rick, that was a good one – I needed that....A ‘U’ with a crane on it – that is hilarious.”
CNN Tonight, January 25

“I want to read you guys a letter to the editor that we found in the Lexington Herald-Leader. It was a fascinating attempt at trying to explain why some people support President Trump. Here’s what he says. ‘Why do good people support Trump? It’s because people have been trained, from childhood, to believe in fairy tales. This set their minds up to accept things that make them feel good. The more fairy tales and lies he tells, the better they feel. Show me a person who believes in Noah’s Ark, and I will show you a Trump voter.’ Look, this gets at something...that my executive producer likes to say, is ‘Hey, voters want to be lied to, sometimes. They don’t, they don’t always love being told hard truths.’”
— Host Chuck Todd on NBC’s Meet the Press, December 29, 2019.

“The story all weekend – the transition game – was won by the defense. Because the whole topic became, can you impeach a President who hasn’t committed a crime and to the right wing, to the Trumpites that’s a good talking point. To the non-attentive voter – I think Trump always loves the low information guy, the Dancing with the Stars who cares more about Harry and Meghan or about Brad and Jennifer. And there are a lot more people, by the way, watch the other channels – They care about those topics. It works!”
— MSNBC Hardball host Chris Matthews during MSNBC live coverage of Senate impeachment trial, January 21.

Trump Aides Are Like “Hitler Appeasers” and...

“Whatever crimes are found out now or in the course of the Trump presidency, is nothing compared to what’s been buried that none of us know about, not even a very zealous investigative press has found yet....General Motors and Ford both had executives who were essentially Hitler appeasers, and in the case of General Motors, were involved in the armaments that were used against American troops in manufacturing them in Germany during the war. It took 40 years to find all that out, but it all came out. And people who support these kind of regimes, whether it be appeasement then or America first in the ’30s or Trump, which is, you know, let’s face it, a criminal presidency however you want to slice it, there’s going to be a reckoning.”
New York magazine and former New York Times columnist Frank Rich on MSNBC’s Last Call with Lawrence O’Donnell, January 9.

...Charlie Manson Followers

“The thing about cults is they always do come to an end. And the cult leader, whether it be the Reverend Moon, who was a Nixon supporter, or Jim Jones or whomever, Charlie Manson, they’re never going to be reformed. And that’s certainly true of Trump. They will never see the problems with their ways. But the people who swirl around them and were taken in, they’re going to pay a price, a human price, and a reputational price forever.”
New York magazine and former New York Times columnist Frank Rich on MSNBC’s Last Call with Lawrence O’Donnell, January 9.

No Trump Defenders Allowed on MSNBC

Host and former Democratic Senator Al Franken: “So, I want to ask you about cable news because you’ve got CNN, which is sort of, ‘We’re playing it down the middle except we hate Trump.’”
MSNBC host Lawrence O’Donnell: “No, they don’t. One third of the people on their payroll love Trump. So, you’re guaranteed on any hour of CNN to, minimum, one third of the programming will be supportive of Trump. Someone on their payroll saying, ‘Here’s why Trump is right.’...That’s one of the reasons Trump kind of wants you do watch CNN instead of MSNBC. Because he knows on MSNBC there will be no one defending him because we don’t bring on liars. I don’t bring on a liar. I won’t do that.”
The Al Franken Podcast, January 13.

Impeach Trump to Save the Environment

“The stakes here are immense. It’s just – it’s not just about the political future of one man, Donald Trump. It’s about the future of democracy and democratic process and this is a trend throughout the world. It’s about the future of the Earth. We have a party that has decided to be disbelieving about climate change. It’s about issues as essential as that.”
New Yorker magazine editor David Remnick on CNN’s Reliable Sources, December 22, 2019.

To the “Dustbin of History” Mitch!

“Mitch McConnell years and years and years from now when he passes, yes, he’ll be known as the person who enabled Trump. He’ll also be the person who redid the American judiciary. I hope he’s forgotten. I hope he’s lost in history....Because to have absolutely betrayed his commitment to this country the way he has, I hope he is lost in the dustbin of history.”
— Politics.com editor and MSNBC contributor Jason Johnson on MSNBC’s live impeachment coverage, January 31.

Democracy Is Dead, Thanks Lamar!

Co-host Joy Behar: “Lamar Alexander could have saved the whole thing by voting for more witnesses which would save democracy, a small thing, but no, he doesn’t want to.”...
Co-host Sonny Hostin: “Republicans have sacrificed their own oaths to protect their electoral prospects at this point. I think they have dismantled our very institutions to keep power, for their own ideologies...They’ve become this extremist party. They’ve trashed the Constitution.”...
Behar: “God help America, and democracy!”
— Co-host Joy Behar on ABC’s The View, January 31.

Joy to Mitch: “I Own You!” Now Impeach Trump!

“All I could think of was how do we look across the globe, the country that liberated Europe, men scaling the walls of Normandy to save democracy, that same country is now withholding information in a democratic trial, in a trial against the country, against this president. I mean, it’s just appalling. It sickens me. I woke up this morning, I was so in a rage about what they are doing and how they are not allowing information, information – we pay your bills!....Mitch McConnell, I own you. You work for me! I mean it’s infuriating.”
— Co-host Joy Behar on ABC’s The View, January 23

Trump Worse Than a Psychopath and Wife Beater

Co-host Joy Behar: “You say that you would never play Trump because he has no redeeming qualities whatsoever. So wait. Just let me finish this because you have played some of the most really unredeemable characters. Travis Bickle – Travis Bickle was a psychopathic taxi driver. In Jake LaMotta who used to beat his wife, in Raging Bull. Is Trump worse than they are?”
Actor Robert De Niro: “To me he is....He’s a low-life and he knows he’s a low-life.”
— ABC’s The View, December 16, 2019.

“He’s a low-life and he knows he’s a low-life.”
— De Niro on ABC’s The View, December 16, 2019.

“Trump Would Have Been Gone” By Now, If Only We Lived in Canada

Host Stephen Colbert: “Is there something like impeachment in Canada?”...
Comedian/TBS talk show host Samantha Bee: “We have a vote of non-confidence. Everybody kind of comes together....We’re like we don’t believe you can do this anymore. We’re not sure about you sir. You will get on out of here.”
Colbert: “Trump would have been gone six years ago because even the people who support him don’t think he can do it.”
— CBS’s The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, January 30.

GOP Senators Going to “Burn In Hell” For Supporting “Agent Orange” Trump

“Do they [Republican senators] have to put their hands on the bible when they took the vow?....Well, because they’re going to burn in hell if they put their hands on that bible....I wouldn’t want to be standing [next] to none of those guys because they’re gonna be struck by lightning. And history will say, they were on the wrong side of history. The wrong side....Whoever comes out of the Democratic convention I’m voting for because we cannot have another four years of Agent Orange....Every night before I go to bed, I think about Agent Orange has the nuclear codes. Hopefully they gave him the wrong number!”
— Film director Spike Lee phoning into MSNBC’s PoliticsNation, February 2.

Trump Voters Keeping Racism Alive

“I refuse to participate in post-racial America. I refuse to say, ‘because we elected Obama that suddenly that means everything’s OK. White people have changed.’ White people have not changed. Two-thirds of all white guys voted for Trump. That means anytime you see three white guys walking at you, down the street toward you, two of them voted for Trump. You need to move over to the other sidewalk because these are not good people that are walking toward you. You should be afraid of them.”
— Film director Michael Moore on Rolling Stone magazine’s “Useful Idiot” podcast, December 23.

Trump Like Hitler All Over Again

“If you read the history, you won’t be surprised. It’s exactly the same. Find a common enemy for everybody to hate. I was sure that Trump was going to get elected the day he announced, and I said that he’s going to be like Hitler, and Mexicans are going to be the new Jews. And sure enough, that’s what he delivered, you know.”
— Singer Linda Ronstadt comparing today in America under Trump to Nazi Germany, CNN’s Anderson Cooper 360, December 30, 2019.

Why Do These Republican “Creeps” Defend “Monster” Trump?

“As a voter, I have never understood allegiance to political parties They exist to serve our interests, not the other way around. I tend to vote Democratic, but would turn on them in a heartbeat if they betrayed my values. Why are Republicans hellbent on defending this monster?”
— January 17 tweet by comedian/actor Michael Ian Black.

Opie Attacks

“In the entertainment industry many who have known/worked w/ Trump think that while his reality show was fun and ran a long time, he’s a self-serving, dishonest, morally bankrupt ego maniac who doesn’t care about anything or anyone but his Fame & bank account & is hustling the US.”
— January 1 tweet by film director/actor Ron Howard.
